WLM does not support "identities". You can setup multiple email "accounts" and each will be listed separately in the left pane of WLM. If you require email privacy, you will need to setup separate user OS logons such that when the PC is started, booted or locked, the user will select their specific account / password - then they can setup their personal email account in WLM (Tools - Accounts)....

Even though I'd promised myself not to take further part in this discussion, I find it difficult to let this pass without comment. Stephen, you have made this claim repeatedly without substantiating it. I maintain that mail message rules operate completely consistently. Even the *one* bug that I know of is consistent, thus making it possible to work around it. I'd be delighted if you could document the alleged...

The icon by the clock is an alternate way to open the WLM program. Are you saying that the WLM is not opening at all or that the program opens but you don't see any Inbox folder? If the program opens, do you have any mail accounts set up in WLM? You won't have any Inboxes unless you set up some mail accounts. Each mail account gets one. Look under Tools, Accounts.

Hi, Stephen. Like Ron and slk759, I share your frustration at having to Browse to the Inbox (multiple browses to multiple Inboxes) for each Apply Now. But I don't have to do that very often. After the initial Apply Now for a new rule, future messages received are Moved to Storage Folders by my Mail Rules before they ever get to the Inbox(es). So the frustration is usually only one time for each Rule I create - and I don't...

Go to IE - Tools - Internet Options - Programs - Set Programs (button at
bottom). Then go to the last item, "Set program access and computer
defaults". Ensure the radio button for "Custom" is selected and look to the
far right of that - you will see a little double-down arrow - click on that.
Ensure the radio button beside "Use my ...

Sorry, Windows Live Mail has to be open in order to access
WLM contacts on your desktop.
Alternatively, if you normally sign in with a Live ID, the contacts are
also available on the web at http://contacts.live.com .
(without WLM needing to be open).

You can send email from a different account by doing this: When you compose
a new message, to the right of the To line, is a From drop down list. Click
the downward pointing arrow and select the account you want to send your
mail from.

I have 5 Inboxes. Defaulting to one Inbox makes no more difference than
defaulting to Storage folders.
I sort by From. Highlight, right click and move to folder.

Hi, Claire,
I have a total of 5 accounts in my left pane, but when they are
collapsed, so that only the name of the account shows (not the Inbox,
Deleted, etc.), they really don't take up much room at all. I don't know of
a way to hide the account name, making it a 'stealth' account, but you could
always rename it as ...

Are you talking about the 'Drafts' folder under 'Storage folders'?
That quote is part of a post by DougS dated 11/11/2009 in the thread 'Win7 still slow' in the newsgroup 'alt.windows7.general'.
Are you subscribed to this newsgroup?
Is this Draft message a reply or a new post?

In the Contacts window, double click on the contact to open it up and every
item on the left side has paste-able fields, except Summary.

Unfortunately, there isn't one.
That is one of the main reasons why I still use Windows Mail for
newsgroups, although Windows Live Mail is my default mail client.

WLM doesn't know anything about compression.
So selecting compression was done outside of WLM. Either you or someone
else on the PC set that. Or some optimization utility set that.

The messages may actually still be on your computer.
Try looking in :-
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
You should see folders in there, one for each mail account you had. In these
folders are .eml files which are basically just text files, one for every
mail message....
