I use many players including various versions of WMP. None is a favorite
although WinAMP, properly configured, does a great job. For you, Media
Player Classic comes to mind:

TCP Optimizer changes various registry settings. If you restore to a
registry before TCP Optimizer made changes you'll be back to your old
(working) settings.
At boot tap, tap, tap F8. Boot to a command prompt. Type SCANREG
(enter), START, View Backups, then select the backup created before TCP
Optimizer. Reboot. Done....

Interesting article. Reminded me of the many wrong doings MS has been
charged with over the years! In fact wasn't MS's inception derived by
stealing (something) from IBM's OS2?
Personally I think the world would be better off WITHOUT MS and put
climate change #2 in importance <g>
