Halladay is not the answer

There is no way they lock both Lee and Halladay up. Even if they sign 1 of them longterm, odds are Howard is gone.

OOPS - i did mention it up in the yankees part, but I wanted to put that in the marlins part to... not only can the yanks sign above slot - but the lowest payroll teams, they can't even draft the best players, because they have such a tight draft budget. That means, many times, they are passing over players with more talent to sign the guy who's bonus fits within their budget. And that makes finding young players to help your big...

Howard Needs Winter Ball
Published (2009-11-08 20:57:00)
Ryan went last winter, lost 25+ lbs and worked on his defense. I'm sure he knows what he needs to work on this postseason without winter ball.

<<"I really don't get the point of this thread. Please enlighten me.">> As was pointed out several times already, this thread was a "sarcastic" retort to someone who was, as you put it, spouting his world views on this Phillies site, rather than (again as YOU suggested) using a political website for his political efforts. As I have already lamented, this thread makes no...

Who was our 35th president? He took on communism and the Soviet Union and Cuba at the very real risk of nuclear world war He proposed huge tax cuts in order to bolster the economy In Berlin he was quoted as saying "tonight Im a Berliner" in support of tearing down the wall that later did come down. A version of one of his quotes went on to say "ask not what your country can do for you but...

I don't know if clearing salary this year is the issue. I think next season is the issue. You got Lee, Vic and Werth who are all FA's after this season who are almost all must signs.

They should have waited until the 2010 free agent class. The NBA shows why the salary cap is terrible. Big market teams like the Sixers and Knicks can't get better for years and years. The Sixers are doomed to be terrrible for the next five years.

Well, if the season ended today they'd be a Wildcard Team. Only thing is their second half schedule is absolutely brutal. They're playing away games at San Diego, NYG, Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta yet, plus Denver at home. I know that the Eagles have a good history of finishing relatively strong, but this season, I think there are too many questions/injuries at O-line, LB, and secondary in ...

"Bastardo and Lower level prospect to the Nationals for Zimmerman then 3rd base is locked up." Maybe if you include Happ, Drabek, d'Arnaud, and May...they will start to listen. Zimmerman is now a gold glover and silver slugger and one of the best 3B in the league. And he is locked up for awhile.

I still think the Phils sign Chone or Beltre. Though if Derosa wants to come here as a bench player, I'm on board.

Add Mat Gamel to that list and I somewhat agree.

No offense man but your reading way too much into it. There is no way that Lincecum is going to become available short of giving them Hamels Utley and another prospect.

I feel the other way around. I'd love to see the AL get rid of the DH, but either way, I think it should be the same for both leagues. I think that the DH takes a lot of the fun and strategy away from the game and creates 1/2 players: batters who don't field and pitchers who don't bat. These guys needed to do both in Little Leagues, high school, college, minors.... why not now? I think ...

Well we can speculate but Amaro and the Phils can not. They must have a solid alternative that they absolutely think they can get whether it's Figgins or some lesser light.

I went Pedro back, to be honest. I really value his defense over there. With the way this lineup is constructed, I really don't think we need all that much offense out of the 7 hole (but with that said, 88 RBIs from that low in the lineup is nothing to sneeze at). I think $5 million is a very reasonable price for him. But, the fact that Ruben is taking so long to decide whether or not to pick ...
