Back up Catcher
Published (2009-11-25 16:33:00)
"He sported a robust .697 OPS in a serious hitter's league where the average OPS was .890" Really. How come the MiLB website is showing 66 batting leaders from the AFL and 46 of the 66 are below that number with the lowest being .572. I highly doubt that the average OPS is .890. "I'm just wondering why you feel strongly enough to post it multiple times." Because I felt it was pertinent to those...

Moyer back in hospital
Published (2009-11-25 20:03:00)
If anyone thinks Moyer possesses the grace to retire and not take that 8-9 mil he's owed for this year, you've been watching a different Moyer than I have. He thinks that if his legs were amputated completely he could still be effective out of a wheel chair. I sure wish he would retire. But it's just not who he is. That's a lot of money to turn down, and he's not the guy who will do that.

Moyer back in hospital
Published (2009-11-25 20:20:00)
(UPDATED, 7:55 p.m.): According to Ciccotti, Moyer ?is very comfortable. He?s walking. He?s up. He?s doing his normal routine.? But he has been experiencing lingering pain from his Oct. 2 abdominal surgery, prompting the Phillies to bring him here to be evaluated by Dr. Bill Meyers, a nationally renowned specialist who performed the original surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital. Moyer saw Meyers yesterday, spent last night at Thomas...

Drabek 2010?
Published (2009-11-24 20:58:00)
I'll tell you what Joe, no one is really saying his name, but the way he pitched last year in AAA and then when he got called up at the end of the season - I can't imagine that he wouldn't be a reasonable option in the 5th spot if Moyer isn't ready to go (or if he's done). he put together 2 solid starts - and in limited innings - the key stats - k per 9, k to bb, and hr rate were all down. I saw his game against the...

J-Dub gone after 2010?
Published (2009-11-25 16:38:00)
agreed. We don't know if Taylor or Brown will become what we all hope. So, why would we let go one or two guys that we know can get the job done and be leaders on the team. Give the young guys a shot if an injury happens or Ibanez needs to take a couple games break at the end or beginning of the year.... Victorino, Werth, and Brown/Taylor seems like a good deal to me in the OF. Oh yeah, that Ibanez guy ain't too shabby either, lol....

Sorry, I thought you have to beat someone to win a world series. Hence, worrying about what other teams do.

Interesting concept, but John Middleton sold his cigar company for something like $2.9Billion. My $400 is like a penny to him. I do hear what you're saying, but it won't happen. Middleton can pony up $50M and not blink an eye.

I think you need to be a bit careful in terms of how we throw around the cheap label with this team. It's been discussed else where at length, but this team spent over 140 million last year in salary, bonuses, and in season trades. We are going to spend that at least this year - and if you look at the landscape of the game (and economy) we are among the top 4 or 5 teams in baseball in terms ...

for starters, he has a full no trade clause, 2nd do they have someone ready to step in at 3rd and finally, he had injury issues last year. im not sure i want to spend that guy of money on a guy that may not be healthy. with werth out if ramirez is down, the lineup suddenly becomes a question.

As far as we can tell, the Jays would not discuss a deal with the Yanks or Suxxx last season at all. So, why would you assume the Yanks and Suxxx will not give up top prospects to get Halladay? In fact, I'm pretty sure they would do that to get the best pitcher in baseball. We do know they wouldn't give up top prospects for Lee last season. But Halladay is a bit of a different animal. Lee is...

If the Yankees get Halladay and sign him to a NEW deal I will blame MLB, this is ridiculous and would be a joke, not forthe Phillies sake but for other lower teams like the Pirates, Royals etc, how can they expect them to compete. I would love to see a salary cap in Baseball say around 200 million, that is enough lead way for any team to be really good but not overwhelming.

they will target anyone that they think can help the team, its tough to target guys in this before all the names come out. depends on scouting reports that the minor league guys get. rule 5 guys rarely work out, but its worth a shot if someone's there.

I'd rather see DeRosa replacing Bruntlett and have the Phils go out and get Figgins. :)
