It would be hard for me to imagine that anyone would try to negotiate a higher salary when they are being offered a job. I think one needs to be careful not negotiating themselves out of a position. With layoff, and downsizing on the rise, I wouldn't risk it. I heard that getting a job now days is just as hard as getting into Harvard.
