If anyone is interested, I'm still alive. I've been doing security work at our local theme park this summer. The shortest work week I've had is 55 hours. That plus walking all day has dropped my weight down to 175-180 lbs, from 205-210 lbs in January. I went lifting today, highlight was 6x185 on flat BB bench. almost had 7 but spotter touched it. I'm going to be lifting twice a week, ...

My only PR worth mentioning is squatting 405 for 6 reps back in Feb. My weight is 170. The depth is not as good as some here but I have 2 bad knees from my skiing days of youth. So the depth was about 2 inches short of parallel. I'm new here but I signed up after seeing a few familiar names (DanC and Luke) from an old "natural strength" board I used to post at. One day that board just seemed ...

I find T9 very helpful especially for me who send a lot of text messages. I guess not everyone knows how to use this feature. I was a multi-tapper before but then I switched to T9 right after. Are you using this too?

And I am about a 1/16 on an inch from closing it with my left hand. I think I closed it with my right. The first 1/2 to 3/4 is actually easier than I thought but then the last 1/4 to close is brutal. It just stops dead in its tracks and refuses to touch. Well now I've got my work cut out for me. Do you think I would be able to work up to closing the #2 by January? According to the site I ...

I'd like any critiquing from those who have done Atlas stones (dan) on the form. Maybe i'm not doing enough with my legs or whatever. Any help is appreciated. I had some chalk on the forearms and hands. We don't use the sticky stuff, but there's some on the stones from the Strongman Competition we put on about a month ago. Tue 1/1/2008 1001 pushups Sets of 10 throughout the day. Started having goals of a set number of pushups in a day a few years ago. This year it was 1000 and I probably will not go any higher. Maybe switch to number of pushups per set in the future. Hope everyone at DF has a great 2008 in fitness and in their life. It was fun last year reading about everyone's style of working ...

Hi guys, I am having a hard time eating a proper meal before I workout because I'm at school and I usually have class for 3-5 hrs in a row no breaks in between, then I workout at the school gym right after class because I live fairly far from the school. What are some good post workout meals I can eat before my workout, and also how long do I have to wait after eating before I can workout?...

Why do full squats? - 42 new posts
Started 6 days ago (2008-10-08 07:44:00)  by maverick
From a bodybuilding perspective, they are a great overall muscle developer for the legs. Beyond that, though, why? I'm a big believer in exercising the body in the way it was engineered to be used. Alwyn Cosgrove explains this well in his "New Rules of Lifting" book. I'm hard pressed to think of any situation in sports or life where you need power from the position of a full squat (...
