Good point Swartzy! In the two pix I posted in the other thread, the one with spill might be preferred since the eyes are much better lit by the spill. But your main point is well taken. It is all just part of the arsenal, not the sole-solution to all conditions. The first exercise at the class was just using the flash for fill (straight on, no diffuser, no bouncing).

Your slideshow is showing for me in IE8, but your navbar is a mess (on multiple lines). If I run in compatibility mode, your navbar looks right but your slideshow doesn't run. --- Denise

Dave,
I have questions about how " sleep" mode works - do you have any comments or

This photo always makes me laugh. Why is the bride (holding my umbrella) talking to the limo driver (sitting inside and dry)? Isn't he suppose to hop out and open the door for her? I love Seattle weddings!

Have done a bit more clicking around on this one and this is what I have discovered:
You see borders on all sides on the video playing (lightbox?) page if you use the B&W, Gradient Grey or SmugMug Gradient themes (these are the only ones I tried as they are closest o the Black Arts theme which is the default for my site) You get the three sided border (no bottom border) using smugmug classic ...

Thanks!
You'll want to add this to your CSS, as well:

.loggedIn .nophotos {display: block;}

Expodisk is a fine product, but I still use and recommend a simple Kodak 18 percent gray card, which also has a white surface on the back. That combination of white balance and middle gray for exposure is the simplest and quickest tool available, and the standard Kodak kit comes with 2 - 8" x 10" cards as well as a travel sized 4" x 5" card too. (Obviously you can also chop up one or both larger ...

This was really a difficult round to pick 10! Now to pick one is really tough! Congrates to all the finalists! I will be adding my reviews this evening to the gallery.

The 17-55 will cost you $1,000. If you can afford it, then you should get that over the 50mm. Why? Because of the zoom range, the IS, and excellent image quality. The 50mm F1.4 is an excellent lens. But if you have the 17-55, I doubt you'll use the 50mm much. I didn't. Although, since going to full-frame, I'm finding new uses for the 50. (The 17-55 doesn't work on full-frame.) Take the ...

I would add the EF 70-200mm, f2.8L USM (with or without IS). The combination of the EF-S 17-55mm plus the 70-200mm is great for any social event and works well for travel as well. (Although the 70-200mm, f4 is generally better for travel.)
Keep the 50mm and 135mm for those times when you need either DOF control or low-light performance.

I'm with you. I don't do a lot of these challenges, so I don't really have any advice.
My cats tend to get in the way when I have stuff set up to photograph. I have a feeling that they might actually get in to a photo this time.
Sorry I'm not much help.
