Which Panasonic DMC?

The FZ35 has a longer optical zoom, is quicker focusing and may be better in low light than the ZS3. Both are very good cameras.

Whoa Nelly! Instead of plunging straight to an expensive DSLR my suggestion would be a step-wise approach. Get a SLR-like ultrazoom first. Examples would be: Canon SX20 IS http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/d...powershot+sx20 Fujifilm S200EXR http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/d...inepix+s200exr Which can handle wildlife and just about anything else you want to shoot. Get a year or two with this camera under your belt as your Photog Bootcamp....

Codecs for Windows

Most welcome Andy. Actually I came across this by chance while I was looking for codecs for my Windows Movie Maker. Had error messages that say that some of my codecs were corrupted. Then I saw this & thought some of us could benefit from this info. Cheers. Nicky

Waterproof p&s cameras
Published (2009-11-24 20:45:00)
I was looking at the Panasonic cameras and I noticed their waterproof line... Are there any waterproof cameras under $200 that produce sharp indoor pictures? If not, what would be the price range for a good waterproof point and shoot camera?

I was comparing the D3000 to the Canon XS/XSi. These seem to be on the same "level" regarding price and features. I guess my question is whether the Canon has the exposure bracketing that you mention the Nikon at that "level" does not have.

I just updated the page with a deal on the Pentax Optio W60. It will go on sale at Amazon at noon, though they don't say for how much. Their price now is $230. Here's the link . ...And I added the two-lens Rebel T1i deal. It's at Abe's of Maine for $899. The link will take you to their page for the single lens kit, but you can find the two-lens kit under the drop down menu that says "Also available in." Happy...

If you don't mind changing lenses, I recommend getting the best DSLR camera you can afford, along with a general purpose "kit" lens and a fine long zoom lens. Many DSLR's come in a package that includes a long zoom lens.
Some possibilities are a Canon 7D, Nikon D300S, Pentax K7 and the Sony A850.
All four are excellent cameras that will take superb pictures for you.
All except the...

First of all, eliminate the FZ28. You can't find new ones at a good price and the FZ35 is a newer version and it's better and cheaper. The ZS3 is a fine camera as well - it's the FZ35 in a smaller package with less zoom.
There's another camera that's similar to the above two - the Panasonic ZR1. It's a slimmed down version of the ZS3 with a bit less optical zoom. It's also cheaper than the...

It would be very helpful to me if you would post some similar photos from DSLR's that are selling in this price range. I'm shopping in this price range and I'm torn between some of the new compacts, like this one and the one from Panasonic and some of the DSLR's in this range.
I'm not in the position to gather several of the DSLR's and some of the compacts in order to compare them. If you ...

The D3000 is geared towards users who are DSLR newbies. It has a feature called "Guide Mode" that you can select on the mode dial on the top of the camera. As stated in DCR's review of the D3000:

Switching to the Guide mode prompts a menu that will allow you to use the multi selector to select a shooting scenario you want, click on it, and then it will take...

Are there any problems with still photos, or just movies? If still photos are OK my guess is that you don't have a memory card problem but a problem with your camera.

For serious photography you need a camera with full manual control options. There are two basic types of cameras in this category - digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLR's) and sophisticated point and shoots.
DSLR's have the best picture quality, largely because they use the largest sensors. DSLR's are larger and heavier than point and shoots. They also have interchangeable lenses. Many...

Fixing my old SD1000?
About a year and a half ago I bought a SD1000 on sale. Due to moving and other considerations, its been sitting in a closet for about a year. I decided to dust if off and use it as a solid/cheap point and shoot. Problem is that all of the pictures are fuzzy and out of focus. I though it might just be a smudge so I ...

There are some really great deals listed. I especially like the deals from Best Buy and Office Depot. $699 for the Canon Rebel T1i? If it includes the lens, it's a terrific deal.

If you can afford the Canon SD1200 IS (Ixus 95) or the Panasonic FS15 or FS7, I prefer them over the cameras on your list. Of the five cameras on the list I'd pick the Nikon S570 before the others, with the Sony second, Nikon S203 third, Olympus FE4000 next and Kodak M340 last.

The Panasonic ZR1 is a bit more expensive than the Sony W290 but has more optical zoom (8x) and shoots HD video. Other cameras within your price range that have an even longer optical zoom and HD video capability are the Panasonic ZS3, Canon SX200IS, Sony DSC H20, Kodak Z950, and the Samsung HZ15W.

S200EXR exposure problems
Dear users of s200exr (or maybe also s100fs),
I really love the camera, but there are three things I really don't understand:
1) Was anybody successful in activating Program shift? I'm in P-mode, flash is down, ISO is 100, DR is 100 ... but rotating the dial atop doesn't do anything (shutter half pressed ...

In my opinion the best all around small cameras in your price range are the Canon Ixus 95 (SD1200 IS) and the Panasonic FS15. The Canon is the quicker camera. The Panasonic has more optical zoom and a better movie mode. Both are small and take very good pictures but neither has HD video capability.
If you must have HD video, the Canon Ixus 100 (SD780 IS) is a small camera that can often be ...
