I have taken it as a challenge -- I was indiscriminate about carbs before, focusing on fat and sat fat ... so I ahd to shift my thoughts. Of course there is less sponaneity in my eating, but I do not consider that a bad thing. I have to plan more, that makes me a lit-tle bit obsessive ... but, hey, okay I already WAS! I seem quite capable of still finding things I love to eat, and to find joy in eating my (now measured!) portions of them!

The rest of Day 21 (11/5/09) had no spikes. Day 22 (11/6/09) I moved to 21 units of Lantus - also an unremarkable day. No spikes - pretty good control 107-141 for the day and only about 75 carbs. At this point of my journey on Lantus - its given me a solid enough baseline under 110 than I've been able to truly do my first food testing. Everyone of us is different as I've noticed since I joined here -- so these 'conclusions'...

I work as a laison for the US Department of State, which means that if I'm not in Washington, I'm in the EU. 70% of my career is traveling back and forth from our embassies in Europe, and those time changes were a pain for me the first few months on the job. For my endocrinologist appointments (I recently switched to a new endo in the DC area) I set them up usually months in advance for a certain date, and then if that date cannot be...

"Barrie, Linda, do you even imagine what our numbers must have been like before we knew we had D and ate 'normally'? I drank at least one can of Coke per day, for instance." Are you kidding, Josslyn? I easily drank 2-4 Pepsi's every day ... and never even gave it a second thought! If nothing else, a D diagnosis gives us a real nutrition lession. BTW, my morning number was 107.

I have a post describing a timeline to becoming T2 in the prediabetes forum. In that post, I mentioned how I was fighting off infection after infection while I was becoming T2.
I don't know that being T2 in itself makes you more susceptible to infections - but I believe that being a T2 without good control makes a person susceptible to numerous issues.

Mitchell,
You may find that people are not responding to your post at it really looks like advertising or spam as you have links in your signature. If you were to tell us more about yourself, your diabetes management etc. you will get replies. However if this is spam/advertising, you will not get replies and in time I would expect that your post will be deleted.

Type 2 diabetes is initially caused by insulin resistance, which can be controlled with metformin and similar drugs. Insulin resistance causes your pancreas to produce a lot more insulin than normal because your cells need more insulin to use the glucose in your blood. This will eventually cause your islet cells to **** out, and they will then decrease insulin production. This leads to a lack ...

pumpwearinc sells stuff, just Google insulin pump accessories.
I usually just keep mine in my pocket, but as its getting colder out, I've been keeping it in my bra, under my breasts, so I don't get a weird lump in my shirt. If I'm wearing two shirts, I might clip it to the collar of the undershirt and cover than with another shirt.

I'm not sure if you exercise or not, but exercise is one of the best preventative therapies. Regular exercise, keeping hydrated, keeping your glucose in a normal range, and ensuring your cholesterol is within normal limits will greatly decrease the likelihood of further complications. Good luck to you!

Vent away.
It's relatively common to have those strong cravings. Can't say it happens for all, but for me, those feelings passed after a few weeks. It is tough, but for me, it became much easier with time.

I tested my BG this morning upon awakening and it was, as usual, slightly high at 147. So I bolused 3 units of Novolog.
Yes, I know I said I'd wait before doing this on my own, but it's my body and my life and if the endo doesn't like it that's her problem!
An hour later I tested again and my BG was up to 169. At that point I was ready for breakfast so I bolused my prescribed 25 units of ...

I keep trying to tell my endo's PA that the salads I eat every day for lunch do have a significant amount of carbs in them. And she keeps telling me there's no way any kind of salad has any carbs in it, significant or otherwise.
I eat a salad made with three ounces of mixed baby greens (2g net carbs), a dozen grape tomatoes (6g net carbs), a cup of sliced red onions (13g net carbs), a cup of...

How about learning about the increasing intrusiveness of the insurance industry into our care? (still fuming from my EEEEEEEW!) thread.
There is tons for you to learn -- read our forums for a while and you will get a completely different perspective than if you ask a question hoping for answers, I think!

You should probably check with your endocrinologist. However, usually you want to be 80 to 100 before meals and 140, 2 to 3 hours after meals. I rarely get those numbers, but that is the goal

Hey folks,
I was diagnosed in August 2006 with Type 2 diabetes. I've ignored it, thinking I feel fine, and that high blood sugar wouldn't affect me.
I went to a highly regarded diabetic specialist yesterday, and he told me that I was the worst diabetic he'd ever seen. My last A1C a year ago was 12, and he told me I was "barely living." He called me a non-compliant diabetic, and that if I ...
