I have so many friends with back pain. I think a lot of it is due to poor posture and poor sleeping positions. I do a lot of yoga and had one yoga teacher tell us that when you are sitting properly, you open up your lungs and let more oxygen in. Doing lots of the yoga stretches will help alleviate some back pain. The cat stretch is good, as well as bridge positions. You can also use yoga blocks to support your back and stretch. They also sell...

There is no yes or no answer. Just as there is no yes or no answer to ANYTHING involving diabetes. What affects and happens to 1 diabetic will not happen to the next diabetic the same way. What I feel confident in saying is that ANYTHING can happen, especially if that person has had high blood sugar reading for extended periods of time. This is usually a topic discussed with a urologist or your endo perhaps. It is possible for some and not...

Hello Jason, welcome! There is another site where there are thousands of members with diabetic children. I suggest your joining that site for obtaining many participants. Here is the link: http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com I was diagnosed with Type 1 in 1945 when I was 6. I have had diabetes for 64 years and am very healthy. If we have good control we can have long, healthy lives. Good luck to you and your son! Richard

The IRS is silent on this matter (as far as information irs.gov). In my case, I depend on the organization that administers my FSA for detailed interpretation of the IRS guidelines. I have Aetna and here is what they say ( http://www.aetna.com/members/fsa/eli...xpenses_H.html ). It is clear from Aetna, that they consider it covered and I have had it reimbursed. Check with your administering organization, but I bet that if your doctor gives...

You'll find that some people very rarely change their lancet. Others do it more frequently. It's really up to you, unless you are prone to infections or notice a decline in performance when you don't change it, then you really don't need to change it unless you want to.

November 14 is World Diabetes Day. On that day, at 14:00 hours (2 pm , local time), thousands of people with diabetes will test their blood sugar, do 14 minutes of exercise, test again and share their results online. If you can't make the 2pm time, it's perfectly okay to do it before or after.
The event is called The Big Blue Test because the blue circle is the international symbol for ...

Thanksgiving is November 26. We celebrate with Turkey, stuffing, all the good stuff and then turn around and do it again for Christmas! A long time ago the Native Americans showed us how to be thankful for the bountiful harvests and now it is a national holiday.

Interesting? What happens to those of us with some dawn phenomenon who simply want to sleep late simply because we went to bed late or because we want to enjoy a late sleep on the weekend?, Will our number keep on climbing to dangerous levels unless we eat?, I mean, are we never allowed to sleep late again?
SORRY for all the questions, I was spooked a little last night, but I had a learning...

Len, metformin or glucophage are a med that is the first line of treatment for most type 2's by their doctors, so we often discuss it....... and the advantages between 'regular and extended release'

I'm guessing I am very unusual for a ( T1 ) diabetic, but I do a low fat diet. I replace the fats with complex carbohydrates. I generally like to keep the carbs at 50 to 60 percent of my calorie intake. IMHO , foods rich in complex carbs are more filling, which lowers your overall food intake. Carbs also have less then half the calories of fats.
Others do low carb, and swear by it. My ...

Frustration #2) Lows when I do aerobic, light-med work--ie) walking, hroseback riding, long run, etc...
Sometimes the highs are minimized by eating beforehand...but otherwise they seem to occur whether my BG is 5.4 or 10.9 before the workout. I don't like being the rower in the boat that slows ...

I hate to admit it, but my former lifestyle was probably the prominent factor in my getting diabetes. There is absolutely no family history of diabetes, on either side of my family, going back several generations. I was like a lot of people, I ate what I wanted, when I wanted it. I grew up in boarding school where 'junk food' was rare, so when I became an adult and could have whatever I ...

After many discussions with the specialist regarding my last A1C - which was 5.9, and I thought a very good number, I have been advised to up it to at least a 7.
Their reasons for doing this is my problem with hypounawareness & they reckon that going higher would help. I did try last yr,and spent a month with a 9 or higher, but that didn't help much. Mmm - not too convinced about this level ...

Thank you so much for all of your support and the first thing we started to do when he was diagnosed was watch carbs and implement more excecise so it seems we are on the right track here. I think we all have a different tolerance for carbs. Most kids especially during growth spurts can burn lots of carbs without trying. My kids have problems putting weight on. Even in college they would lose weight instead of gaining the freshman 15. When your endocrine system works you can afford to eat more carbs. Children should never be put on restricted carb diets. Now, that doesn't ...

Welcome Susanne,
You are going to find out that sometimes there is just no answer for a sudden change such as this, yes exercise can be a reason for this but our bodies do strange things at times and this is normal for many of us.

On Dr. Neal Barnard's website he has a document called "Diet and Diabetes: Recipes for Success." In it, he recommends eating all fruits except avocados, olives, pineapple, and watermelon.
Now, I understand that pineapples and watermelon have a high sugar content. But, what's wrong with eating avacados and olives?

Welcome to DD. Diabetes is very frustrating and just when we think we have something figured out, something else goes out of control. What I have found is though we are all diabetics we all react totally differently to meds, diet, insulin and exercise. We have to find what works for us. For me it was a lot of trial and error, switching diets and doses of metformin. I found even changing the...
