Hi Zophii, it sounds like the impact of the hockey stick had something to do with this. but I also am curious did the dentist say there was decay there and thus the filling that was there was 'borderline' and not as solid as it could be? I've definitely seen some pretty solid hockey dental injuries, and sometimes they were distinctly trauma induced and there were some teeth that were a combination of previous problems (gum...

to you and your mother I'm not a dentist but I don't see why she couldn't have i/v sedation or GA and have everything done at once assuming you can finance it regardless of any insurance constraints. Also we have some cracking recommendations for dentists in New York such as Michael Krochak but he would probably be at the pricey end. He has TheWand which is a painfree way of giving the local anaesthetic if multiple visits is...

k. had lower molar extraction last tuesday. finally got back into the dentist today (monday) b/c of the severe pain. said it looked like dry socket and it was still pretty inflamed/irritated (i started antibiotics on friday night). she packed the socket with eugenol (no guaze, just looks like yellow paste) and i have to go back in tomorrow to see the dr that did the extraction so he can take a look. he may have to pack it again....

Ally, I'm from Connecticut originally (Hartford area) and spent lots of time in Boston! GO RED SOX! I almost fainted when they won the world series and felt I could now die a happy woman after the 81 year slump and Curse of the Babe! My brother lived in North Reading for many years. I now live in the desert SW in Arizona. So sorry you are still having so much pain but it is good that you are returning to see your dentist tomorrow. He can...

I called around....for my kids.Yes,I used them as guinea pigs to feel out
the places.Even the dentist commented and chuckled about that.I did it that
way though to see how he reacted to different ages and happened to overhear
the different ways they use to calm their fearful patients.Of course, doing
it that way has delayed any work on my teeth(not that that would have
mattered to me,heck I've ...

Hi RP,
It's great that you've found a dentist...do you trust them? Have they come as a result of a recommendation? I think finding the right dentist is the best thing you can do.
Believe me that once you've found someone you're happy with, someone you can discuss your fears with, things will become easier as you're both on the same side and both doing the best thing for YOU!
You say ...

that sounds like muscular/ligament type pain so more likely the TMJ, but you should get it checked if there are twinges too.
In my experience a dying nerve & infection is a weird tingly type local pain radiating upwards or downwards from the tooth root itself, and is not relieved by massage. It's only if advanced that it will go as far as the ear, but youd have warning next to the tooth ...

Hi Ange,
I can understand that you may feel that you are emotionally "done" with having fillings done since you had a lot of fillings done when you were younger.
I will advise that if you haven't had a check up recently, to still have xrays taken and evaluated just to make sure that your current teeth and fillings are healthy. a tooth can get cavities in a new area from where the filling...

Hi Sophiestar,
you will NOT swallow the cotton roll. They are HUGE. Just like you won't be able to swallow the hand of the dentist, you will not swallow the cotton roll. The cotton rolls are not in an area that you will be affected by them. You will be ok. AND they may not even use the cotton rolls, there are other ways to work without them.
When the fear comes up in your head, ...

Hey guys,
I haven't posted for a while. I am due to have 3 teeth extracted on the 20th November
For those of you who have not read my post, I did not go for 14 years and now have to have a totally broken black hole of a decayed tooth removed, together with an impacted wisdom tooth and another tooth is to be removed as there is not enough room for it.
I had been so brave (or in ...

Hi everyone. This looks like a friendly place so a deep breath from me and I'l jump in!
I've been dental phobic all my life and caused such a fuss as a child that my parents stopped taking me to the dentist when I was still very young. I plucked up the courage to go for a check up when I was in my late teens as i had tooth ache and needed some small fillings. And I never went back again.

Congratulations you have turned the corner and are on the home straight. Given the pain you must be in, I'm sure you won't regret restoring yourself to health with no lingering infection.
Glad the was nice...so she should be.

Your dentist sounds rubbish but you'd still need a crown if you had root treatment. If you end up having the tooth out then the dentist should have the human decency to not charge you for the crown. Perhaps they can arrange some payment plan for the root treatment.
Your experience with the antibiotics reminds me of a story I read in the paper today about a guy who went to his dentist to ...

Hi Vix,
If you go to the dentist he or she will most likely speak to you first. You can dictate the speed at which things go, maybe first a chat about how you feel so that you can work out if you feel comfortable with them. YOU are in charge. You don't have to do ANYTHING you don't feel comfortable with.
If you do feel able to let the dentist look at your tooth then it will be done ...
