So Happy But So Sad...LOL

We dont hound hunt but when feral dogs/yotes etc jump deer from what Ive seen the deer stay in the open trying to loose the pursuers? I know from experience our beagles/ rabbit dogs and coonhounds use to run deer on occasion and they stayed in the open for quite awhile.

deer shed
Published (2009-11-26 18:46:00)
I have found sheds before, just one side and wondered what the deer may have looked like.If you have a deer of same antler size mounted or know some one who does hold it up to it to get the right angle comming uot of the skull by looking at the first few inches at the base.Of corse this is just a rough estimate without the other side but it gives you an idea.I stand around in my trophy room with sheds and racks, skulls and hides for hours on...

Rage Broad-heads?

I hear their great, like thowing an axe at a deer. They're mechanical, and therefore I'll stick to my old 125 grain Thunderheads.

Rage Broad-heads?
Published (2009-11-26 10:25:00)
Th rage two blades seem to work very well and open up at the slightest resistants more than other mechanicals. Only thing I don't like about them is that they tear up my broad head targets too fast. lol! Here's a picture of a hole from a two blade rage. Big hole and left a blood trail that was unreal from a horror movie!

Nothing to be upset about, just hunt there when they arent working, and like others have said, its gonna be very beneficial to you down the road.

Wisconsin rifle season.
Published (2009-11-23 14:21:00)
I'm hearing a lot of the same story from other hunters. I know it was warm, and foggy by us too, but I'm not buying the "weather" thing. The size of the herd is down...period. The EAB program did what they wanted it to for sure.

If you can catch a rainy day, they will not likely be working. The deer will keep basically their same patterns after it is cut. Hope it does not mess you up too much. Have you had any luck this year yet?

Other than the trail cam photos, these are deer we filmed with a sony handycam and saved the frame for a picture. The colors have been played with a bit but the images ARE the actual film screen shots. There is a ton of hunting pressure around our place. we have only bow hunted but we are hearing 20 guns shots at each sitting. They dont come in bow range, or at least havent yet. Just trying to ...

Here are a few pics to start it off although they are from the 07 rifle hunt. I can't seem to find my 08 pictures anywhere. Oh well hopefully there will be a few for 09.
The guy in the pcture is my uncle. He didn't shoot any of the deer there but we took the picture of him with my cousins gun who missed hunting season that year and told him that his dad shot all the luck out of his gun....

You'll get many different answers from different folks, but it really depends on your own personal preference, like how much recoil you are comfortable with and the land you will be hunting on.
You need to try a few out and see.
Personally, I like my .270. easy on the shoulder, flat trajectory, good range and power.

When I was in the AF in Hampton we used to go up to Chicahomony WMA(not sure of the spelling) up towards Richmond. We allways saw deer and got a few too. Guys were allways hunting with dogs on the weekends in the area and it kept the deer moving. We went to a few other WMAs and saw deer.

One thing I learned during my 4 years of deer hunting is that I don't walk in the area I am hunting while it is still dark. I have spooked a lot of deer & been blown at. So I wait til I can see somewhat and quietly travel to my stand. Nothing worse than walking to your stand waving a flashlight all around you..
Ive jumped deer while walking in somewhat daylight, but I had a chance to get...

hey maine hunters, I am from Wyotpitlock which is near molunkus. I have been pretty successful while hunting but the woods are getting thicker all the time. It makes it hard to see te best chance is find where the deer are hanging out and climb a tree and wait.

figured i'd use this thread to post updates on how the gun deer season is going. I hunted all day Saturday and Sunday morning. I hunt in the CWD zone in Columbia County. Heard lots of shooting Saturday morning and saw 9 deer, all doe and 1 forker. Deer were moving until i got down for lunch just after 11. Went out that night and heard a lot less shooting and saw two doe. One around 2 o'clock, ...

it might mess you up a little this year but it should really help you in a year or two when all that new growth is coming in.

Interesting. I saw someone do something similar with a rope and attaching it to a truck. I can skin a deer in about 5-10 minutes doing the normal way.
