What makes the Blu Ray hardware...

Apart from video & audio.. Its disc uses a protective coating that resists scratches. (Unlike DVD) The format spec is not set in stone (Like DVD) meaning there is always the chance of added benefits & improvements to the current library. -BD Live -PIP Commentary -Bookmarks Increased storage capacity to enable more extra features than its DVD counterparts. ................... Personally my fav (& most taken for granted)...

Apart from and/or in addition to the obvious (better picture quality), what makes both the Blu Ray hardware and software format so unique and superior to you. If there's any web links you admire (where this is very well discussed without going into only technical reasons only), please include any.

Having some idea of a budget will help greatly in suggesting equipment for you. Is this for a bedroom, dorm room, other?
What size room are we talking about? How big do you want the TV? Flat pannel?
A basic HTIB will get you started. One from Pioneer comes with AVR, 5 speakers, and a sub for $219 SRP. Yamaha makes one that comes with HDMI video switching ( Not sure about audio...

Just " Battlestar Galactica" on Blu. At some point, I'd like to pick up "The Prisoner", but it's not a huge priority for the moment.

Sadly, the online price for the Walmart exclusive Transformers is several dollars higher. It's currently listed at $23.32, and when I preordered it the other day, it was $24.86.
