OK, I found this on a bodyshop forum and thought I'd post it here in case anyone else wants the info. Stripping: 36-80 For metal I use 40, fiberglass or plastic 80 might be called for, 36 grit scratches in plastic can be real nasty. For some plastics that don't sand well consider chemical strippers, be gentle, or go up to 110 or 180. 8" rotary is my choice for stripping. Prep for filler: 80 No reason to go finer or coarser for...

My R1 is 11+ years old, I changed the original battery about 6 years ago and the replacement is still going strong. I take them out of the bikes during winter and cycle them on my battery tender on my bench.

The track in Kershaw Sc.It looks like it should be alot of fun plus it looks to be HUGE! I'll be there on Nov.22
Also the new track that supposed to done in 2010 In Ga.Theres a thread on it somewhere in here.From what i read in the article It seems as if it's gonna blow VIR out of the water.OOH sandyhook ain't to bad either theres also a track in Elgin Sc that ain't to bad,probably not ...

talk to badbandit12 he painted all of his bikes. an easy way to get paint is to go to your local auto parts store and buy the Duplicolor ready to spray paint, you will have to spray clear but no mixing hardeners with the paint

I owned one of these bikes..... sounds like you need to check the carbs again... particlarly the pilot jets. Also look closely at the floats, and where they are set. Sometimes race gas affects the floats, and if the float level isnt right, it will run as you described.
I loved my old R-1... it ran flawlessly.... I never had a carbed bike run that consistently.
