I didn't have any luck with searches at the Sony websites just now, but after taking a look at the error codes in the BSOD, and some web checks, it may be that you need to update the BOIS there. What operating system was on this before, and did you have these issues then?

The whitelist is trusted programs that wont alert your av software because it isnt monitoring what it does. I wouldnt add much to your whitelist but windows defender is one that can be there. The one thing I have found that is helpful though is when you are installing trusted programs (ones that you know you are putting on and are safe) right click the umbrella and disable defense so it doesnt flag at every single registry change or you could...

Welcome to CTH tysee,
Permissions restrictions where none were before suggests malware activities. May need to do some file transferring, but I would like to see some scan results for now.

Welcome to CTH needscomphelp,
We do suggest folks not run any procedures on their system they see used in another person's repairs. Too many differences in systems and situations, and too much chance of things getting worse. Let's get some info and check here.

The computer seems to have sorted itself out now, after being left switched on for several hours, it suddenly booted into Windows and is now running correctly. Looks as if it might have been busy completing a task.

Bingo!
You're not going to get any decent flow to video with an old CPU like that.
All the BUS speeds on the motherboard [as well] are causing the poor video speed.

I use Power Save mode to make my battery last longer. When on batt power, my monitor dims after 1 min of inactivity, turns off after 2 mins, and sleeps after 10 mins. When plugged in, my monitor dims after 2 min of inactivity, turns off after 5 mins, and sleeps after 15 mins.
I know that constantly turning electronics on/off is bad for their longevity, especially lightbulbs (I know this is ...

A big one or a small one, all depends on why it won't boot into safe mode.
(just a bit of humor, no offense intended)
Can you list your system specs and a detailed description of the problem? Can you boot into windows normally? Does the system hang, go into an endless reboot, blue screen, etc. any error message/s? Are you attempting to fix a problem you have under normal boot conditions? ...

I have a strange thing going on with my computer. I noticed that my avg scan didn't start running on the cpu so I went in and tried to start it myself well nothing happened when you push start, so I went to microsofts onecare live scanner after about three min. into the scan the internet shut down and now will not open at all. So I restarted the cpu into safe mode and did a sys restore that after...

first of all, how full is the drive your os is installed on. You need about 15-20 percent of the drive free for working space. In addition have you done a disk cleanup lately? I mean, have you deleted any and all temporary files on your system? I would suggest using ccleaner from ccleaner to get rid of your temporary files.
If you think you have nasties on your system, you really need to...

Not seeing any malware in this view. A bit tough, in that the majority of the tools we use are set for 32 bit setups, and even fewer updated for Windows 7. Let's try one that may do the job of getting some info to check here. Be sure you right click - Run as Admin ...

Hello Cocimon,
I will need to establish the actual ownership of the "work" laptop, as far as our repair assistance goes here. Most of what we provide is targeted at personally-owned systems, and any business/agency owned ones are referred to those entities to use their own repair resources. No infection showing in this one view, so let's get more details, but also post back on the laptop ...
