I think you're likely to get a few contrarian answers here. Mostly because it's one of those "it depends" things. There are some facts that everybody seems to agree on: 1. Every major lender has an internal score. It surely takes into account your Fico, but that's not it entirely. This part is speculation, but I'd imagine it takes into account demographic data not unlike actuarial ...

Auto Insurance pulls are always soft. I recommend Geico. I've been with them for 5 years and shop every 6 months. They are consistantly the cheapest. They have also never given me a hassle when it was time to pay a claim ( had 2) EDIT: ALso, if you do a quote with progressive, they will give you your insurance score along with a few reasons why its high/low at the end. just scroll down ...

NFCU was easy to get into. I just had my mother join, then presto I was in (under my father). USAA, not so simple. I got my mother a full account set up there, under my father's name which was NOT easy since my father did not have an account at USAA while he was alive. Then, I got my account, linked under her account. Everything should be all set right? Nope. My mother now has to buy one ...

Debit = as good as cash without the fear of late pmts or interest charges... plus if you bank at the right place you can get cash back/rewards from the use of debit!

I'm assuming your credit reports are clean? If so...is it worth it to you to take the hit on your reports if you negotiate for less?

FICO doesn't factor in income because that's not part of credit. It's the job of the lender to determine DTI and whether a debt load is acceptable. Maybe utilization on accounts with CL less than a certain amount should count less, but I don't think total debt should matter for FICO.
