New Bipolar Diognosis...

Sounds fairly bipolar to me.... Lithium can cause weight gain, but it by no means does so for everybody. It also doesn't make everyone feel sluggish, either. It's certainly not a bad starting point, at all. I'd give it a chance. If you get side effects that are bothersome, you can always try something different. Anna

QUOTE (sg2028 @ Wed 25 November 2009 9:09:28 GMT +0000) That's really cool! I am jealous. Just want to toss out one comment/caution -- I don't get "SUPER manic" and then crash - nothing near it - and lithium has been a life saving drug for me. Not to say that it may not work well for you, but a hugely generalized statement like that can lead to others coming to a conclusion...

I was wondering about mixing lithium and amphetamines. Are their any bad side effects of mixing the 2. I am new to taking meds so excuse me if I sound like a dumb ass!

Published (2009-11-27 01:26:00)
Like I had some sensitivity to light, sound--what happens if I can't take any light or sound? These thoughts are really hard to describe...being anxious over things that would basically ruin my life totally, feeling that they really could happen, or feeling close to them happening already....is this brain chemistry or anxiety or what? Does anyone know what I mean?

QUOTE (SPINDARELLA @ Thu 26 November 2009 1:10:11 GMT +0000) I have a friend who is well read on mental illness and medications and she said "DONT YOU DARE TAKE LITHIUM" Says its evil and that the side effects are worse than the illness, not to mention it being outdated.. So thats freaked me out a bit naturally. She seems to think I would be better on Lamictal..?? That's really bad...

QUOTE (Bipolar Bear @ Wed 25 November 2009 18:49:37 GMT +0000) All I can quote is "personal communication" from that lecture, but her comment was that folks in those situations (strong manias with large crash) tend to be better responders than other types of patients. She didn't say that it doesn't work for others, just that the course of the disease is a decent predictor of the...

QUOTE (peanutbutter @ Fri 8 May 2009 9:42:24 GMT +0000) So, I'm on zoloft, 50 mg, can't get it upped because doctor says antidepressants make me "manic" whatever that means and yea, all those possible side effects? I'm very sensitive, of course, they've worn off by now. Well, I mood swing a lot on antidepressants, I've only ever been on Prozac before this, but...

Prozac Induced Hypomania
Published (2009-11-26 14:23:00)
prozac made me an irritable wreck for 2 years before it wore off and I calmed down a notch. I didnt realize what was going on at the time. Not something Id take lightly. Lexapro hits the depression, the apathy and the anger for me. Im only cyclothymic though, not quite bipolar.

Loved, loved, LOVED it. Lamictal was amazing for my depression. I also love seroquel, but use it more for sleep (even though it has shown AD properties in some studies.) There's a few threads about starting Lamictal on that page. Go slow, don't freak out if you are a little destabilized in the beginning, and shoot for the 200 mg range. (That seems to be the "standard" range for bp ...

More Zyprexa might help with the hyperness if it's bothering you. What it does for me is put me to sleep real good. Whatever you do, don't let them increase the Ativan. It's useless after about 4 weeks because you build up a tolerance to those benzos real easy. Then to try and come off of them is real hell.

I wouldnt worry about it so much. Its a small amount of something and honestly theres no telling if your initial response will be positive or negative. The odds of getting EPS from abilify are pretty slim especially on such a small dose. for all the horror stories you read here there are likely thousands who do well and say nothing about the drug. you are already on a pretty activating drug...

Thanks for the Lamictal advice. I just came home from pdoc with my nifty kit and after a bad experience with Wellbutrin, am ready for some peace. I can't take SSRIs because of tendancy to dyphoric mania, and was stablized with Trazodone, tiny dose of Ritalin and now the Lamictal. Doc hopes it will be small dose, too. I'm glad these new neuro-drugs are being assigned to BPII because the...

Couple things would be useful here: How long were you on the Seroquel, at what doses? When did you stop it? When did you start the Clozapine? How long have you been on Cloazapine? As far as how long Clozapine will take to get out of your system, it has a highly variable half life, with a mean of about 14 hours and a min max of 6/26 (thank you pocket pharmacopea). Generally, 5 half lives ...

I was taking 150 mg for the past few months, and then over the last week Iâve tried taking an extra 150 mg pill in the day. Iâm fine with it. I feel a bit more âspeedyâ, more energetic. And itâs hard for me to fall asleep at night. But I think once your body gets used to the higher dose it levels off a bit. So you might feel a bit more of the stimulant effect and maybe some side ...

QUOTE (Lilac @ Sat 21 November 2009 20:10:17 GMT +0000) Kind of rhetorical, but really, maybe it's good that my mom and dad only had one kid? And I have 3 kids. My h's only family history "issue" would be some autism spectrum (and he and his dad would likely fit if they cared enough to go through an eval). What are the odds that my kids will grow up "normal" vs batshit crazy, ...
