Look into courses in industrial design. It will allow you to use your engineering background but in an artistic way. Plus, with some schools a degree in product design is a BS rather than a BFA, which will look good on your resume if looking for non art jobs.

Great studies mate.The lifes are very good but i also think you must make a small research on edges and some in contrast. You already "sharpened" manualy some things but there are some key spots for example in the last life study in the cover of the pot i think there could possibly be a sharp shape hehehe. keep up the good work

well if the client thats all that matters! on the last one work with the shoulder armor, im sorta confused by how the fire's light is hitting her face, since its behind her, and maybe theres some to the side of her, shouldn't the shoulder armor be interfering with the light? Either way, its a wip and a cool piece, and how the lights hitting could pass without notice easily.. work on them shoulder pads though, the design looks sorta...

I can personally vouch for the Bridgeman book (take a look at my sketchbook, there's loads of samples from the past couple of weeks), and I'd also recommend his Complete Guide to Life Drawing for its focus on drawing an appealing body in motion. Been meaning to get the Marvel book for ages, although I've got enough books I need to work through at this point as it is.
