Gangsta, I just wanted to let you know I tried it from start to finish to verify it will work. And I can't tell you how embarrassing it was to steer you wrong. I'll have to change the file associations in my winrar so it doesn't happen again. BTW, thanks Flying C. This will be a great addition to my tool chest.

How to troubleshoot a Stop 0x0000007E error in Windows XP If you look at the box titled "Symptoms" in this article, does your error message give you any further details like that? If so, that could help out in fixing this quickly.

Yeah, considering it is old it would make sense that a new one will make things faster. It probably is operating on an older wireless mode. So, it was a good idea to get a new wireless card.

Sony Vaio display problem

KDG it sounds like a driver or two became corrupted during the upgrade. Vista drivers are compatible with Win 7 but little quirks that crop up during an upgrade like this are very common. I would first check the device manager by going to Start>Control Panel>Device Manager and makes sure that none of the hardware listed is in a trouble state which is usually indicated by an orange or red icon with an exclamation point. Check that...

These boot disks are really the best way to remove viruses. Malware that digs deep into the system cannot be removed while Windows is running, this is equivalent to slaving the drive to another computer. The only problem I have encountered is sometimes removing these viruses can leave the computer unable to boot. Apparently some viruses replace critical files with their own versions, removing them without replacing the original files kills...

They also sell solid-state drives--they have no moving parts. A bit more expensive, but it would work. You could also just try it and see what happens. As long as you have backups, you can always put in a new hdd if the original fails.

I agree that modern Operating Systems do not need to be defragged--by modern I mean Vista and 7. XP was a wreck with data. You do bring up good points with recovering data. Hopefully, people will have backups and will never have to resort to third-party recovery solutions for data. But as you said, the more the hdd is overwritten, the less likely you are to recover files. And the more your ...

There are a couple possible explanations to this problem. First a foremost, I'm under the impression that it is absolutely not your hard-drive, or really a hardware related issue. One thing you may do is up the ram to 2 gig. This will be extremely cheap to do and should give you some more months out of this machine. XP is the perfect operating system for a computer with this ...

Go to this site, , download the Bitdefender Rescue CD iso file, burn a cd and boot your computer with it. Make sure you have a wired connection to the internet for it to update and let it run. This will remove the viruses but it will not repair any damage done to Windows.

The games are slower because you are running games off of the USB bus. Even if this bus could handle it, it would be so bogged down. If you have any other USB devices, they would respond slow, as well as the games because there is so much going on on your USB bus. I would use your internal hard drives for games.

Yep, sounds like the wires are not in the correct position for the switch. Most emachines that I've worked on have the power switch cable on one row--the row farthest from the case-side. It's hard to explain. So here's my lame diagram: . .. ... ...... ____________________ case Try that. A tip for the future, take a picture of the configuration before you disconnect wire. It is probably the power supply although you should test it before deciding what to do. Some older Dells use a special power supply that is difficult to find and expensive, some use a standard power supply that should cost around $50 for a good brand. What model Dell do you have?

It all depends on the brand that you are looking at. Personally for people that are just surfing the web, checking email, and writing term papers I've been recommending Acer. I purchased my 10 year old son one brand new off of newegg.com for about $400 and my wife one a little nicer for $500. I'm like you, I just didn't see a purpose in dropping a ton of money on an expensive laptop that will ...

Hi, Another question for you guys. I have almost no experience repairing computers, but I'm eager to learn. Maybe that way I can write a...
