You mean merit scholarships (not merit aid) Yes, there are some schools that will give merit. But since some schools do not superscore an ACT, what is your best sitting ACT score. You have to realize that schools that give merit aren't going to be equal to UMich or UNC-CH and such. What's important to you? Big top ranking name? Sports/football?

RileyJ: As long as you are taking a comparable courseload to what you indicated on your UC app, they won't care where you take your courses. That being said, you'd be crazy to skip out of Ithaca, assuming you can swing the financial aspects of the experience. Congrats and good luck.

Where is the college town?

Well we all know how Minneapolis has often been ranked for best place for young professionals, also stated to be one of the most smartest cities. I recently just discovered the small buisnesses along Washington Ave going towards University Ave but I still notice a large lack of a usual vibrant college town. I also already know about Dinkytown, but lacked to find the typical stores you'll see in college towns. I think Minnesota is a great...

"I'm sure more of the story will come out. The fact that some people on CC would rather deflect the story from the abusive Mom and her lowlife friends who are directly culpable for this little girl's abuse and death is surprising. Is race playing a role in the way different people are viewing this story?" Huh? What does race have to do with the fact that although friends were so concerned that they offered to take...

i get really excited when i see this thread up on the first page again.
my progress since last time has been as follows: i attended a welcome event for a different cornell college than the one to which i am applying and got the promise of their dean of admissions to put in a "good word" for me with my college, i had another appointment with my college to see if my improvements will be ...

No, the scholarships seem to trickle in. Under my Howdy portal, the scholarships changed from one to another until the total amount was set. For instance, I would get one scholarship which was higher and negated another scholarship. The total would never go down, it always increased until the very end. Engineering scholarship was the last one to go in. Hope that helps!

I would love some feedback as well. I have done Thanksgiving dinner for my extended family for about two decades, but have generally used a supermarket turkey (Butterball or such). This year the Trader Joe's flyer description of their fresh brined turkeys sounds appealing. Has anyone tried them?
All input welcome!

I think you're in because I know someone personally with not even close the the level of ECs and academic strengths you have. . . he also got a full ride, so I think you're fine.

I really don't believe it's a big deal. Temple is also a safety for me (3.8 uw gpa 2070 sat). I also probably only wrote 1000 characters and was accepted and offered a 5,000 dollar scholarship per year.

plat: you're fine, apply in september and you'll be in my october or november. And put time into emphasizing your leadership and ECs.
ur: you look good, but have you only taken 1 AP so far? Again, apply early, emphasize leadership, and you're lookin good.

If I do not get matched with any schools, can I then proceed to apply to another school via ED II? Usually those deadlines are around December 15th which is after the December 1st results day of Questbridge.
It seems it would make sense since I no longer have any commitment to other schools at the time of application, right?

I am trying to get both of my essays corrected by my teachers. Once that's done, I will send it in. At the moment, it's not looking so good. I still feel my essays are awful. Good luck to everyone and wish me luck!

Our college consultant suggested telling S that we will pay the amount per year that his safety school will cost, and if he wants to go to a more expensive college, the extra cost will be his responsibility. We explained that to S, and it makes sense to him.

me! me! me! i'm almost for sure doing scea.
i don't know how much of a chance i have (mid 2200 SAT--second attempt's CR score seemed like a freak accident struck, and overall, unfortunately, it barely showed improvement--and a low 3.8 GPA albeit at a super tough private school). i'm hoping they love the artistic type, though, because if i ever get in that'll probably be why.
