yep, that's an option, I saw an E6600 go for £50 on Ebay, not bad.... plus I still have all the boxes for all the kit, my only concern with the processor is it's lapped, and they would have to plug it in to test it is what it is.. hehe

Honestly P55 seems the ideal choice unless money is no object or there is a specific need.
The money saved on CPU and motherboard could be used to purchase a better video or audio card, case, hard disk, more memory, basically anything that will be appreciated more than the CPU power that most people don't need because it won't make any difference to them.

first of all to my point of view a X48chipset is not outdated xD (I´m using one myelf, grrrr )
First thought was, 4,4 Ghz on your....wuha that´s qute alot, but your settings look quite resonable. i never went for OC an E core myself, so don´t rely on me. I think your RAM should have the capability to clock that far. I´m not thast sure for your FSB ...did you try ...

Try SAS in safe mode, in fact, try all what you've already done in safe mode, but to be honest, if it was that badly infected, I'd be reinstalling the O/S from a backup at this point. He sounds very lazy, should only take an hour or so to reinstall all his stuff, whereas it's going to take you hours and hours to fix a virus.

BUT, use OCCT in Linpack mode or LinX, they have a simple interface and use the same library.

The roads here are most suitable for speedboats at the moment too - we had 62mm rain last night and tonight they're forecasting a possible 75mm - add to that the gale force winds (and potential power cuts if i dissapear later lol) and its all good Autumn fun in the mountains

3.8Ghz 20x190Mhz @8 = 1,520 7-7-7-19
Cheers here's 1st shot. Have picked 3.8Ghz as that's a common speed on Phenom II x4 955 etc., so interesting to compare bwenches. Also not that hard to get either when your in learning mode, exploring new bios
