somewhere in the family tree, we are supposedly related, 5th cousin I believe, I Can vouch for the fact that all the McQueen boys in my close family were hell-raisers! it's cool to learn things about my heritage, even if the relatives are distant!

I like the colors a bunch. My FIL's 59 Mercury is almost the same exterior/interior colors and it's one of the coolest cars I've ever driven. This is the GT-E I'd want. It's not so perfect you'd hate to drive it or have to carry antacid with you. Anyone wanna let me drive their E car on the Power Tour or the musclecar 1000 next year? Very cool car. Good luck with the sale, Buyrare.

It would be interesting to go through and price out what it costs for the stuff you would need if you started out with a good builder: ('68 xr7 302 C4) and then added up the price of what it would take to rebuild it, by category: interior, exterior, chassis, and engine. No restomod improvements, no concours NOS stuff. just reproduction and driver or better quality parts.

That hi-lo switch is about ten bucks, 2 screws, 2 wires. I had to replace the one in my 68 also.

Could be fun. Throw a light back on and poof you have traffic cleared instantly. ( I figure if real cops can do that without being on a call then why not me?)

Steve McQueen's formal education was at the Chino Boys Republic. Just a couple of miles from my home. He devoted a lot of time and money to that school in his later years. ...he ended up in Los Angeles with his mother and started hanging out with gangs, since he was unhappy with his home life. Invariably, Steve's activities got him into trouble. His mother sent him to the California Junior Boys Republic in Chino, which is a home for...

The 100 millionth car Ford built was a mid-70' Futura.
Looking at this, it's not hard to see why American car manufacturers surrendered so much market share to the Japanese.

Boy it has been so long since I did one of those. Must be back in the 70's after breaking two in my Cougar. Now I just pull it out carefully with two hands and have spares in the garage. Yes, it is held in place by a roll pin that goes through the handle and into a hole in the metal shaft. I remember that I had to make a careful measurement and then drill a hole in the new handle before sliding ...

Speaking of Caltracs.... Calvert still struggles with the correct parts for 68 Cougars.
During my install today I learned they sent me the wrong shock plates and I suspect the push tubes are wrong too. Can anyone confirm the length of the tubes for a 68?
Also, what do I need to tell Calvert come Monday about what shock plates are fit a 68 Cougar? I hope they are cooperative about getting me the...

Ah, the most coveted Ferrari of them all, the 250 GTO. This one is even more rare than the " garden variety" GTO, it has a hatchback.

I sent my boy down to the local Auto Zone (the one with extensive parts counter help turnover) to buy exhaust doughnuts for a 2.25" diameter Y pipe.
They had to call me to ask what doughnuts were. I was tempted to ask for a carb gasket, too, just to shake them up.

I think that you should pay to have a custom cam ground for your engine.
Your engine is very much the inverse of what manufacturers ballpark their Cleveland street cams for in terms of marketing. You'll be leaving a lot of driveability and power on the table.

High pressure? New one on me....High volume means just that, you will circulate more oil over the same period. Always a good choice. Oil pressure changes with temp and viscosity. Keep in mind flat tappet cams require zinc additives if you went that route. Roller is a much better choice to go if you got her tore appart anyway.

Yep, I was going to chime in about it being a retread, but see it already has been said.
Nearly as we can tell this car has what I like to refer to as the reverse Midas touch, it was once gold, the rust belt touched it and now it is now sh!t.

Go to kinkos or a camera store and use their printers if you don't have a good photo quality printer.
That's what I do when on the road with only 2 wheels under me.
Congrats to Jeff Ford on jumping in and trying to make the mag work.
FWIW, I wouldn't get too mad at them over not having a hard copy. It's pretty much their best effort at surviving. The niche market is killing titles left ...

I decided to deal with my CatVert angst by giving it a litter mate that I can play with year round (at least on dry days), so I'm now in the hunt for a Chrysler Crossfire convertible or a Corvette convertible, manual transmission preferred.
I picked those two because I want something that's a good mix of top-down performance and luxury, but I'm also open to suggestions from folks who've owned...
