That was my take on it. Attractive image, hmm? Well, why not I guess... The latest Bud Light ads, after all, tout its "drinkability." How, I want to know, is "drinkability" a particular attribute of a...

Lipton tea
Published (2009-11-08 12:42:00)
The mention of Lipton's recalls the smell of the Lipton's Food Hall in Belfast. Pork Delicatessen and floor-polish. Every Lipton's I've ever been in has smelled like that, regardless of where in the world it was. The tea is terrible. Brisk it might be, but you wouldn't drink Liptons if there was anything else available. Worst tea I ever drank was Liptons in France. You have to expect that. French tea lacks almost...

Tommy, welcome aboard, both to C&F specifically and to the flute obsession generally! Your response suggest you have a very sensible attitude to approaching the task you have chosen. I hope some of the links I gave above will set you off towards your goal. Reading Doug's DIY pages (and also Guido Gonzato's similar ones for whistles) will serve you well for getting started with pre-extruded tube experiments - a good place to...

It depends on what you mean by "the original". Folk tunes tend to have so many versions, it's hard to say what's "the original". Eskin's version sounds to me like what's posted on thesession.org: On the "C" part (the third line), he does tend to break up the dotted quarter notes variously. One time he uses a long roll, one time he turns it into two eighth notes with a breath in between, ...

Try the Road to the Glen (reel composed by Ed Reavey), Dowd's Favourite (not Dowd's #9; that's a different tune), Maghera Mountain (composed by Martin Hayes). Those tunes are tricky to play in their original keys on the D flute, but sit well on the C flute. It's a nice way to play your C flute with others without having to ask the fiddlers to tune down.

For proof about the cork, here's The Yellow Wattle and The Pipe on the Hob
Couple of mistakes, but lots of Cnat rolls for those who are interested in things like that.
Oh, the mic placement's not the same, so the tonal difference is due to that.

You can probably peel them in seconds by dipping them, still frozen, into boiling water for a few seconds. It should loosen the skins to the point that you can just slip them off by squeezing gently with your finger.

Hi Javina.... I'm sorry you are having trouble with your playing. I started with a Clarke Celtic whistle and also played a woodwind prior...I played clarinet in high school (a few decades ago). Maybe you are trying to blow into it too hard...also, warm up your whistle by breathing into it and grasping the metal with both hands. This will cut down on condensation and clogging. Dale has some ...
