If that color and texture variation really bothers you, remove it to about 2/3s the tile thickness with a grout saw, and regrout the area. Consider that your repair still may look different than the rest of the grout before you start. __________________ Bob

We don't have to walk on egg shells, but we also don't have to demean innocent people because one mad man committed a crime. I'm going to close this post, and I'm going to leave all the remarks intact as an example of what is NOT supposed to happen in this forum. I want you all to know that there are members who are pushing to get rid of the Mud Box. That's not going to happen, but this sort of thing simply will not be...

Like Bill, back when I was a grunt, I was once sent to a new (3-4 months old) school locker room complex to cut in perimiter expansion around all the rooms, total of about 2,000 ft of mosaics. Skil saw with diamond blade and second man on water squirt bottle. It was like standing out in the middle of a frozen lake listening to the ice shift, big sections lifting up to 8 or 10 inches off the floor. I called the office (pre-cell phone days) And...

O-pex tubing embedded in mud bed?

PEX fully encased in a reinforced mortar bed is about as inexpensive as you can get. Mortar is just sand and cement. Need to have a floor structure that will support that load too, figure about 30 #/sqft (or more) for a 2" reinforced mortar bed, thinset and tile. Maximum joist deflection for ceramic/porcelain is L/360, for natural stone it's L/720. Over all that I'd put an anti-fracture or uncoupling membrane to isolate the...

It's not that clear of a shot, but I spotted these turkeys in the ravine behind my house today. I saw 4 altogether; I bet there were more though.

We were blown away at the non-sag properties of 255..Here we stuck a 2cm
( almost 3/4") 24x24" travertine tile on a chunk of 1/4" wonderboard and flipped it up vertical.. This was about as unfair a test as we could possibly make..and that thing stayed as long as we sat and watched it...I think Mike was even surprised
Now if 255 came in RAPID SET formula we could use ...

Eric, set your saw to cut at 45 degree and just clip the edges. Shave off the 1/8" height difference, will transition from thicker tile to thinner tile. Polish that raw edge and you are good to go.

JW,
Are there any Harbor Freight stores in Canada? I have a blade similar to this from Harbor Freight and I have used it quite successfully to eliminate 1/4" grout joints. The process is slow and I think a person with a steady hand and a VS grinder with a diamond wheel may be faster. It would also be conceivable to me that one could get the bulk of the grout out with the...

Hi Eric,
I'll start by reminding you to use a liquid waterproofer over your hardi before you tile.
The 1/2" notch will be great. it will allow you to adjust the tiles more easily to bring them into plane.
I have found that most shower valves are forgiving when it comes to the depth that you set them. make sure it is in the ball park though.
1/8" grout sounds good to me, but i...

Hey Andy,
I'll answer part of your thread.
Eight months ago I had two bathrooms that were identical in a condo building. One was spec'd with Ditra, one with Hardi. I measured and kept track of absolutely everything I used and the time it took. After figuring out the materials and time the Ditra actually came out a nickel cheaper per square foot.
I haven't touched a piece of ...

Dave,
Let's not drive this tragedy into the mud, please. The authorities have announced that one of the "suspects" has been killed and that two other suspects are being sought. They have also confirmed that that dead suspect is Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a psychiatrist recently reassigned to Darnall Army Medical Center from Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

I don't live in Tyler. We're at least 250 miles to the south, probably more. That's about "four-five hours" in Texas talk. We don't go by distance; we go by how long it takes to get there in a pick-up truck.
I didn't know he was in Tyler. How long you gonna be there?
P.S. I'm surprised nobody's got a thread going on the shooting at Ft. Hook (Killeen, Texas).
