Uh not quite sure why you would consider any of those car options if you had so much experience with cars and that high of a limit as all of those are cars i would never even consider purchasing if i had a 50k limit. hell even with a 20k limit none of those would even cross my mind. Gather a little more experience and think of investing in a car like a vette which can EASILY be had in your price...

Check your spark plug wires to make sure they are not criss crossed, see if you can isolate the cylinder misfire also.

He more then likely rigged that up because the head unit has failed. common problem with those cars. go to a junkyard and see if you can find a working one.

If you don't tow in overdrive and don't overload the vehicle you should be fine. Check your owner's manual for the specs.
I stress, don't tow in overdrive, keep an eye on the heat gauge and take it easy going up hills.
Consider a transmission cooler if your vehicle isn't equipped with one already if worried about transmission life when towing.
