If John at Keling is smart, he'll lay in a large order of 906s and 381s. This X3 electronics package is just too good. Powerful, reliable and cheap--LOTS of people are going to be ordering it. CR.

Nice Job, looks identical to the LatheMaster. You will find the tach will give you nice precise speed control, When you make the enclosure, make sure you include a cover for the motor! It is right in line with the the chuck. I used a 1:1 timing pulley set up. Note the 2"+ square hole shown going under the bed, I installed a 2" piece of rigid conduit right to the end of the bed to bring all the CNC cables over to the enclosure...

To get an idea of what is involved take a look at http://cncrouterparts.com/index.php?cPath=21 . This company has been kind enough to give sketch drawings of a popular skate type of gantry trolley and will surely get your creative juices flowing. From what you have said about the work you intend doing start with acme screws and plastic nuts prefferably with some form of anit backlash wear compensation. You can progress from there with little...

Mooser, you earlier wrote Set the slow-jog to 85% and it sounds smooth, about 72-74ipm, 86% and it growls and clunks a tiny bit but at 85 it sounds perfectly smooth I noticed that too when my 3-digit (i.e. old stepper drivers) machine was set at 90 ipm. At the 65 ipm rapid jogging speed, it may be fortuitous that none of the slower jog steps exite a resonance in the machine or base, but with max jog at 90 ipm I noticed that several of...

10 M features

10 M was a bubble memory machine. Bubble memory is not available any more, so the replacement board is ram with battery back up. The new boards do however increase the memory quite a bit. In those days, a lot of stuff was options you take for granted now. Major one being rigid tap, rotation, and canned cycles.

first you need more manuals.
second, the tool table may 'appear' if you set the parameter for it to the correct state. It is in with the other programs
there are machine limits and a second set of soft limits that are easily setable for vises clamps etc.
You should also be able to program in ISO by merely starting a new program and defining it as such

Helical interpolation might be an option. Somebody may PM you the option parameter.

I am not sure if all systems have the same option, but sink or source input is usually available, and the outputs are typically FET transistor 24-48 250mA variety.
The FET sinks to ground or common.
Outputs cards can have the FET with own individual common or grouped in fours or eights etc.
The other option is the PLC style rack expansion with assorted I/O configuration, relay etc.

Have you verified the machine is level? Make sure the weight is evenly distributed on all the pads. You need to verify the machines entire table is level at all extents of X and Y axis tavel. The haas tech that came to set up the machine when purchased only had a starret #98 level, I prefer to use a block type level with .0005" per foot accuracy.
Did the machine recently crash? The spindle ...

On many a post here on the Zone, I have read where someone had made an "Impulse Buy" on eBay or other stores.
Well, while surfing through eBay I noticed a seller that had large chrome steel precision balls. 2.5000 +-.0002" to be exact! Now most people would just keep surfing, but I bought FIVE of them So for the next few evenings I stepped away from my current projects and started designing...

If looking at the Smithy, look to Novakon instead. Same machine, but I hear there is more support from them. If you are a student they also give a 15% discount so you save a few thousand dollars.

Hi Randy.
I've got the hx40a model parallel port. It seems to work pretty good if I knew what I was doing and could figure out the software. I'm having a real hard time with that though. I just don't know what the settings mean, what they are for or just about anything. I have had some luck just playing around with it but I purchased it to make $$ with and am getting frustrated. I was told they...

Looks like it will work fine, did you make those cylinders or buy them? I am thinking that while it is really cool and obviously works fine you were doing fine before with just the electronics setup....? I have recently had a new idea that I am kinda working on to make a power drawbar with the same linear actuator. I will post here information once I have a working prototype. I am hoping this ...

Arbo,
Looking forward to seeing this come to life! Your parts should ship Tuesday, and arrive at your place on Thursday. Keep up the 3D modeling -- it definitely helps to avoid trouble down the road.

You will probably find that the inductance per winding changes dependent on where the rotor is. Inductance bridges normally us an AC signal, therefore the rotor position will alter the perceived inductance. I have some of these 5v motors from the 80's, and will dig one out of my spares box to check.

Pretty spiffy.
A good strainer in the enclosure will help a lot.
Would keep the majority of the chips out of the sump, just some fines now and again to remove.
