TreeBuzz Board: what is wrong...
Published (2009-11-09 23:55:00)
It doesn't seem like a right or wrong debate to me. As for me any friction hitch that allows for faster rope management, easier slack tending (if any at all), faster decents, smooth swings/jumps to one work station to another, etc... is worth learning and applicating into a work solution. A blakes hitch doesn't allow for all of those points.

Quote: If one ties a cow or clove hitch "in line" with the pull, I don't see it downgrading the ropes strength much more than 10%. I sticks in my mind from somewhere that a clove or cow hitch reduces a slngs strength by 30%. Yes, you are absolutely correct, when pulled with the hitch on top and the rope takes a 90 degree bend. What I'm sayin is if the cow or clove was turned 90 degrees, so it is a strate line pull, when...

TreeBuzz Board: Kask helmets

I wore mine today to do some pruning. Even with the ear muffs on the helmet was very comfortable. The ones that will be for sale do meet ANSI standards. The one that I got last year was made of a different plastic and were not up to standards.

It's made to run one-handed. ;) No, no mods yet. If it ever sits idle long enough, I may punch the muffler.

I have never used knots when using a crane because I already knew that they weren't allowed. heres what I do: keep several lengths of slings and to make one shorter wrap it around the attachment point the necessary number of times to take up the slack, when the c/o pretentions check the tension on each by simply grabing and pulling, if one is loose then slide the attachment point down or...

Much of mainland Mexico was heavily forested in past centuries, and has since become arid, sandy and lifeless since the Aztecs, Olmecs, Teotihuacan et. al. cut all of the trees down. They literally changed the landscape of much of Central America with their wood harvesting practices. 'The Ancient Kingdoms of Mexico' is a good but slow read, and objectively describes alot of the poor ...

Buy new and never deal with other people's problems. Maybe I've just had bad luck, but most of the used trucks/chippers/equipment that I've owned have had just enough problems to make me buy new. Not saying I didn't love some of my old stuff, I just got tired of dealing with repairs, downtime, and 'touchy' equipment. I know exactly where my stuff has been and what's been done to it, and ...

The other saddle in that class is the Petzl Navaho BOD FAST. Both can be fitted with Fall Arrest! That is more like comparing apples to apples. The Sequoia is another option.
