Rear End Thud Sound
Published (2009-11-24 21:01:00)
There isn't really a rear axle, its FWD, you have hubs and hub mounts. Check to make sure your shock mount bolts are tight, as well as sway bar links (if you have a rear bar). Might have to jack up that wheel and check for play/looseness in the suspension. Might have a bushing on its way out, or it could be a hub bearing. Tough to tell secondhand.

Good Day, and Hello all!

if you still have troubles starting it check your owners manual page 2-14. with door closed start car , if it doesn't start watch security lite .if it stays on for 3 min. it's probably the keyswitch is not reading chip in key. sometimes it will start other times you may get 3 min. delay.had this problem and resolved it with new key switch , not ignition switch. a locksmith that does cars can replace it for you.

Thanks Jason. I think I'll try a pair for my up coming run to Florida. Has anybody tried a diode between the low & high beams so the lows stay on when on high beam ? When the highs are on & you switch to lows but don't release the lever, both are on till you release. Much more light. Norm

Sounds like either the stepper motor or its driver is dead in the cluster, but you may want to scan for codes to see if you have a speed sensor issue. If it's really stuck at that point all of the time including at key-on, you're looking at a remanufactured cluster. Check Ebay and search for "GM instrument cluster"--there are several instrument repair places (many are GM-certified) that will repair for a reasonable...

Miss/Backfire?

I don't **think** it's related to the exhaust, unless an O2 sensor has fallen off. Google "pulling codes on 1992 Regal" and see if there is a procedure. Once you know the code you'll be much better off. Then you can Google it. Maybe somebody else here can help more.

With the key in the ignition, with ignition on, slam the palm of your hand
on the key and try to start it. If it starts, replace the ignition switch.
If it don't start, hit it harder. This still don't rule out the switch,
good chance it's bad anyways.

Probably a bad ignition switch.

Is the check engine light on currently? Does the Check Engine light flash
while this is happening?

you must connect an ammeter in series witth the disconnected battery cable,(with the engine off )to determine if you have a high "at rest" current draw.the cars computer takes a few minuntes to unload and then it should be around a quater amp or less.there will always be some draw.

Is it a RWD?
Park Ave as its own model started as a FWD in 91. Most likely you are looking at an Electra in PA trim level. 84 and older are RWD, 85+ are FWD.
Search Buick Electra or Park Avenue on wikipedia, and see which one it looks like.
If FWD, not much you can do easily. Maybe swap in a series 2 supercharged 3800.
If RWD, swap in a 455 and a TH400, a bit of N20 and you can have quite ...

The computer limits the speed to about 110 MPH. It can go faster than that.

I have a 3.8 turbo Regal, trust me, don't even attempt that swap. Its more involved than you can imagine.
What trans do you have? 200C (3 speed) or 200R4 (4 speed w/OD)?
Both are pretty weak transmissions. Heck, I blew up built BRF code (GN spec) 200R4s with my turbo 3.8L.
Motor depends on how much work you want to put into it. Personally, best bet is a carb'd Buick 350. You could ...

I think you will have to go to a dealer. I believe it requires a special tool.

For those that either already have this filter, or want to install one, there is one of those plastic "thumbtack" type fasteners that secures the filter frame into the housing. It's darn hard to see or find, but when you're trying to pull the frame out and it seems like something is hanging up, this is what you need to remove. IIRC it's on the RH side looking at it from the front of the vehicle...

I also like to know as well about the rear sway bar. Will it get rid of some of the body roll on my 01? I like the smooth ride but can do without the bounce.

The blank odometer is common.
There are 4 resistors that run the display.
To give you an idea of what it looks like, here's a video of a Regal odometer repair.
