....no Bujinkan membership...no card...hmmm This stuff is good to know. I'm glad I joined this forum, otherwise I might not have learned any of this. Thank you all for for replying, and for the thoughtful insight. What I have been thinking has been reinforced by what I have read here. I'm going to give him one more month to show me whether or not I can benefit from his training. Also, the popular consensus is to limit myself to a max...

Alec Baldwin says lost interest in acting, will soon quit . There is only one movie I liked with him in it and that's "Hunt for Red October". Although, I didn't like his portrayal of his character. Quote: Its interesting about the extreme close range focus and I'd be curious to know Guro Lake's thought process on that one. Ernie has said that most FMA practitioners are comfortable in the largo and medio ranges, but fall apart when pressed in the extreme corto range, so he sees that close-range specialization as being an advantage. Personally, if we kept on with this focus indefinitely, I'd be worried about being weak at...

I agree, handled very nicely. Austin, in retrospect I think you should have brought your concerns up to him prior to making a post on a public message board. That way Mr. Bodungen could have the opportunity to address them prior to all of us jumping in. That only seems fair. I am glad it's working out well. Mr. Bodungen, hang around here and participate. You might find out you like it. This place is kind of addictive.

If this is the instructor, than, personally, I am underwhelmed by his credentials: http://www.houstoncombatarts.com/instructors.php He has enough, IMO, to be a promising assistant instructor at a school with good lineage and expert instruction, but nowhere near enough to be a head instructor of his own, unaffiliated school, and CERTAINLY not enough to found his own system. To his credit, he is very upfront about his credentials and when/where...

First, I would do some research regarding your ninjutsu instructor's style and lineage to ascertain whether what he's doing doesn't seem to work is because; a. he's not well trained enough himself or b. he isn't teaching an authentic style with a proven lineage. OTOH, he could have had a bad day and failing in a few escapes doesn't disprove his legitimacy - although it is something to take note ...

Our school is pretty well balanced. Classes move around a bit according to attendance and teacher availability, but I think the current count is:
BJJ (gi) - 7 classes per week
Submission wrestling (no-gi) - 6 classes per week
MMA - 6 classes per week
Boxing - 2 classes per week (but these are twice as long and twice as intense as the other classes)
Muay Thai - 5 classes per week
...

Good for you Tony. Is he teaching a blend of both FCS and Inosanto- Lacoste? Or is he focusing on one system primarily?

He was funny as heck in "The Departed" and I agree with you on "The Hunt for Red October"...
he was also funny as all get out on Saturday Night Live on multiple occasions.
As for the rest, I also agree. Overrated.

Size and weight are a HUGE advantage in any martial art. What Jay said is correct though. I often find that small guys get better faster because they MUST focuss on good technique because they don't have other attributes to fall back on. If a guy outweighs you by 50 pounds or so you won't be able to throw them. That's why they have weight classes in Judo. Of course if all the stars line up and ...

Cliff, I hear a lot of good stuff about Yoga For Fighters. One of my training partners has the DVD and is passing around the club. So far everybody really likes it.

Ha! I really enjoyed reading that! And to think how wrong I've been all these years...I'd better convert and start teaching Judo to these foreign devils, lest the Japanese Government discover my trespass and execute me for treason!
