It should be great . Let us know how things go. Just a thought, once we see how your line performs on O2 (which is ADSL2+ even though capped at 8Mbps), you will quite possibly find you get a bit more speed and better stability on ADSL2. So once you are through the first few days, (you get a txt/email saying all is OK), then it's a couple of CLI commands to the O2 box to try it. But wait till you get that notification as their DLM...

Just a daft message, the speed it will run at will be determined when they actually run the service. It's got really bad now. I started a script around lunchtime which: - resolves www.google.co.uk using 87.194.255.155 - logs if it takes over 100ms - logs if it fails - waits 5 seconds. - repeats The grim results, up to 22:00, are here: http://www.uvon.co.uk/dns-speed-200911191300.txt To summarise the results: - some queries take about 1,000ms (1 second) to resolve during the day (minor issue) - many queries after 20:30 fail (major...

In reply to a post by meditator : My guess is that your advice here is based on the use of a utility such as Dr TCP. Furthermore, I reckon that, along with several other contributors, you're assuming that both versions of WinXP (Pro and Home) can be dealt with in the same way. You're assuming an awful lot ! You asked how to switch path discovery on in XP, and you were told how to do it. We have no way of telling which...

You're connected to a "market 1" exchange, which means only BT wholesale sell ADSL products out of your exchange.
So you can buy your ADSL from many ISPs (Plusnet, BT, Entanet, Zen, and dozens more) but you'll always end up on a BT wholesale connection.
Line speeds will therefore be the same whomever you choose, but actual data throughput speed will be very different as the ISPs buy ...

I was with PlusNet, and I'm considering migrating back. Am I right in thinking that they don't throttle web browsing at any time, and they leave gaming at full speed too?
I don't do very much in the way of P2P, so doubt I'd need Pro. As long as gaming, general browsing, and streaming aren't throttled on Premium that'd probably suit us with its high cap.
When they say "download ...

Hi Tyron
Interesting post. Admittedly a single copper run is never going to be as resilient as fibre when it comes to outages. However in the past few years and due to the number of LLU network operators now around, there are now a large number of 'aggregators' who obtain services from different operators and provide their clients with a solution which is carrier independant. This ...

G'day.
Looks like you have the option of at least 2 re-sellers of C&W - Xilonet or Vivaciti.
Also you have the option of premier business broadband supplier - Easynet.
I suggest you contact the above.
There may also be business options based on the BT network.
Currently you appear to be using Easynet's consumer option - UKOnline. Any chance of line stats reported by ...

Well, have to say that in the defence of Xilo I have been happy with my first 1.5 months. In that time the support has been almost instantaneous and I have even had a test router sent to me f.o.c in my attempts to try and stabilise my line. Much better service wise than any other isp I have been with. Keep up the good work Xilo

1500 works for me.
Sometimes it depends on your ISP (but I remember you don't wish to say who they are) so it might be worth asking them.
Your problems could also be DNS related.

In reply to a post by JNeuhoff : Also, what is the best way for a broadband user to find out details of planned BT telecom service upgrades when moving to another town (I know of samknows/broadband, need something more reliable than this...)
I think Samknows is the most reliable information you're going to get, unless someone knows differently of course!

In reply to a post by swervinc : Will a load balancing router allow me to connect the BT line and the TalkTalk line making my speed reach 1mb? And if so can anyone recommend a wireless, load balancing router with QoS? Thanks
no, load balancing and bonded adsl are two different things.

In reply to a post by Adsl24 : Murphx IPStream MAX
We are also offering a more premium ADSL Max service, which is through Murphx.
The setup fee will be £9.99 which is what BT charge us to migrate the line across (they actually charge us more than that but we've done an offer). This is of course a one-off.
