In reply to a post by RobertoS : In reply to a post by rockdoctor : That wouldn't necessarily work. Most cables contain two pairs. The second is available for two purposes - to supply a second line to the premises without having to run a second cable, and to enable swapping an existing line to the other pair if one or both wires in the first pair become damaged. This removes the need for engineers to go up the pole in many cases....

Actually Bob, I think this part of the thread was talking about the Murphx product. But you are quite right that no-one has got as good a deal from C&W as Xilo did either; I expected Aquiss to be a bit more expensive (as Martin doesn't come cheap and usually does his own billing, etc) but so are all the others. Or Xilo are just letting Matt live in the data centre - that would explain his response any hour of the day or...

here is what I think. I think the issue with the music companies is nothing to do with sales. I think it is 2 things. 1 - They dont like some peasant, pleb whatever you want to call the guy on the street, getting something for free they think should be paid for (or even not available at all). Even if it means the person as a result then buys music, the fact they got just 1 track free must be making these exec's heads explode with...

Currently on ADSL Max through Entanet but I've just seen Orange are doing "up to 20mb" in my area, and they are the only ones (exchange is SLARM on Samknows). I've always had top speeds with my broadband, sync solidly at 7616/448 and download at about 800k/sec, and not that I understand them but Line Attenuation 16.0 db and Noise Margin 16.9 db, but now Enta cap me all weekend (and most ...

You can certainly set both gateways on all the PCs for some better reliability
(manually, or whichever box is giving out IP addresses should be able to give out multiple gateways - your DHCP servers OR routers shoud also allow you to add routing entries if you want traffic for particular internet IPs to use a given gateway.
You can manually vary the order of the gateways in the ...

The software is borked. Simples.
Almost certainly at the specification level, probably as a result of that also at the design level, and almost inevitably therefore at the coding level.

I'm not sure everyone is willing to read 7 pages, especially as there was no end result.
Just to short circuit this a little are you cable or ADSL?
If you are ADSL could you tell us your BT exchange and your router stats?

Hi
Make sure you have the latest firmware.
To enable bitswapping and trellis encoding you need to issue this command, you can do this from DMT by entering it into the user specific command text box and clicking send, this is under the CLI tab at the right:
adslctl configure --trellis on --bitswap on
The line will automatically resync. These settings are lost on a ...

I reported the problem this morning and was told it would be looked into. Still nothing and now my speeds are around 300kbps. In all the years I have used broadband, I have never experienced anything so bad. I am tempted to cancel my contract and pay the penalty.

Can't you just change the DNS Servers at the PCs' end (in the TCP/IP Properties of your Network Connections)?
Then they would just override those set in the Router or back at the ISP's HQ.
