<bump> Now that we have a reflexology group (!), I am hoping some of the new people since 2005 (when this thread was written), have a few lines to share.

Shared receptionist ideas
Published (2009-11-06 06:21:00)
I quite agree with Jason. A good receptionist can get the client in the door - something that you can't do if you are returning phone calls hours later. By that time the potential client has moved on and forgotten all about you. A receptionist is only part of running a business. They can do other things besides answer phones, greet clients, and schedule...they can process payments, do various housekeeping duties, assist in tracking...

I am curious as to what happen with this situation? 50% for a whole year? To much! 50% for the first session is more reasonable. And this women should offer more then one referral to her clients. I would never just refer to ONE therapist. People need choices. Also don't assume that all these clients will come to you. I have seen it time and time again and trust me, once she ends the relationship with her clients, many will cease getting...

Awww, Rubmyster,,, I am sorry to hear this. But I guess this spa wasn't where you were supposed to be! Just a thought,, are there any smaller massage therapy clinics around your area that might be hiring. I think smaller might be more manageable?? Just a thought....

Right out of school I was offered an "opportunity" to pay for a space to provide free chair massage at an event where all other vendors were selling their products. I just said, "I will take the space, but I will charge for the massages. I always get paid for my work." The lady was quite surprised, but didn't tell me no. I made good money that day. I do volunteer work. I enjoy doing ...

I ask because my vegan clients would be livid to ever find out that I served them water filtered through dead cow bones.
Which, for the record, I don't. LOL.

I'm currently reading Pharmako/Gnosis: Plant Teachers and the Poison Path , the third book in the Pharmako trilogy by Dale Pendell. I haven't read the others... they are mainly about plant medicines/poisons, and blend first and third person experience of the plants with poetry, literature, history, science art, and more. _________________ http://www.JoshuaAlexanderCMT.com

4 hours a day at $8 an hour is $32. I'm sure it is dependent on area of the country, but $8 starting wage for reception work is about right, where I am. Since you are working reception 4 hours a day and available to do massage the rest of the day, could you schedule those who call for massage to be your clients during the hours you are doing massages?

I am sorry but I don't get the 50% you will be giving her when you see her clients. How will she know for sure? Why should she be getting paid for the people that have chosen to go to you and not someone else? Will the other MT's be paying her as well when "her"clients go see them? IMO we don't own our clients, therefore we shouldn't be "selling" them.

I googled the laws for GCs in NJ and it seems to me like you're in compliance with the law where you are. I'm not an attorney, but I would think that any GCs that were issued prior to the enactment of the GC law would be considered old enough at this point to be deemed "expired" as long as the date sold is on them. As for redeeming valid certs, I think having someone in place to redeem them for...

If you don't mind having short yellow teeth ( because usually you don't get a choice of having the nicest, brightest, or even matched-to-the-color-of-your-tooth crowns ) or if you don't mind having fillings that are soft and fall out after about 5 years ( and let's don't forget ...

Maybe a subscription to body & soul magazine. I've always enjoyed that mag. It's my understanding that you can spend (& deduct for business expense) up to $25 for gifts on each client. I was told this while in school, not by an accountant. I could be wrong.

Most likely she was coming down with something, and the timing just coincided with the massage. My guess is you have now been exposed to some icky stomach bug. She could also have food poisoning. But I doubt the massage did it. Flu/virus symptoms often come on very suddenly like that.

Can you use hand held trigger point tools, at least part time? (I know it's not the same feedback though an inanimate object, but palpation assessment in proximity with the other hand/fingers works reasonably well).
