quote: Originally posted by RWS I hope you are happy with your HP choice, however based on my own numbers I wonder if the 2 valve 6 cylinder might be a better choice simply based on the DIFFERENCE in cost between that and where you ae right now. What's two additinal cylinders anyway? Good luck with the repower. What's the difference in cost? Bob

Inverter and Charger

Ok you need to identify the wires, replace the non marine grade wire (sounds like he found some) terminal covers and boots are a must. I read this and see that the DC wiring really sounds as if you 1st figure out everything DC (low voltage) and taq the wires, then decide or tell us the size and length of the wires and we can go from there. Get ready to eventually spend some money for good high grade 2/0 or 4/0 marine grade wire, components and...

Great Dismal Swamp

Check on the openings. I understand the swamp is undergoing shallow waters and the COE is not going to fix her. There was a company that offered overnight cruises through the swamp. The Bonnie Blue IIRC. However, they went out of business in 2007. Personally, I would rather let someone else drive.

Challenge for the BE boat...

Dave, Gas lifts are mundane and prone to wear out. Be creative. Pulling the top of the stairs to vertical and you're not lifting the weight. Pivot to the side doesn't require lifting either. Design a collapsing stair to fold to about 3" thick leaves more access room. It's a matter of a dual axis hinge. You'll need access to the inside if the cabinet next to the stairs.

These Bennett electrics can be obtained in 12, 18 and 24" stroke and have 250 lb rating for each arm, if that might possibly help? http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/hatchliftingsystems .php?cID=5

I purchased a new one a few years ago for about $28. Bought it directly from the manufacturer in upstate NY. I will look at my receipts and post here.

You'd be hard pressed to do what you want for much under $1000. And you definitely can't if you want to run A/C. In any case an inverter/charger would be the way to go. How many and how old are the golf cart batteries you have now?

Weather actually looks pretty good. Not something that we could say about many weekends. Good for you. This is your dividend for staying in. Been out since the Saturday before last, being wrapped tomorrow. Now that we are into November, I am telling myself only 4 months until I start preparing for launch. And that daylight will stop getting briefer in 6.5 weeks. This is how I keep my sanity. ...

Dave, most of us are still in the water, no need to start a count down until a couple more weeks. Can't wait to measure my draft. Where is your water line? Mine is just at the very bottom of the exhausts.

The 40 Mainship is a semi dicplacement hull. It can acheive much more than 8 knots with 380 hp. Its more comparable to your ACMY than say my full diplacement ex fishboat that has a big 100 hp. Like my ex wife. Dont be fooled by the picture.

THere is a shop in St Pete that does this swap for a living. I will try to find their contact info. I have dealt with numerous Yanmars and I find them superb motors. THey are quieter and more fuel efficient than some of the other brands. THey are designed for high speeds so they should serve you well.

First things first: make absolutely, positively certain that you do not have gasoline fumes and/or a leak. There is no room for error on this one. Either you get it right, or life will become more "complex". -- Now that you are willing to bet your ( and her ) life that you no longer have a leak, it does take a while. Wash everything. (Twice) Thoroughly air out the cabin, hold and all cabinets/...
