quote: Originally posted by HOGAN Looks good, so far. Any unexpected surprises? Nothing big yet. I had been working on this for quite a while and had it mapped out pretty well. I had originally thought to have my V drives and trannys opened up and basic service performed but after some thought decided to have them completely rebuilt. Trannys will have all new clutches, forward and reverse, installed. Other than that, so far so good. Bob

Windlass question
Published (2009-11-24 18:12:00)
From the website it clearly states you can customize the chain and rode as I did. I have 9/16 rode and 5/16BBB chain 50-60 feet I don't remember if it is only 50 or 60 feet and over 250 feet of rode. F850BDA Series windlasses shown above are completely automatic, free-drop rope/chain combination anchor windlasses. They are offered in the standard BRIGHT Anodized Almag Finish. This is a extremely durable, bright aluminum finish and will...

Looks nice and clean. I hope after all that work they are going to be painting it with a 2 part poly. Have you given any thought to installing drip pans under the engines?

Water Maker Question, 2nd Thread

UV lights are indeed a very good addition, although you may as well put in in the fresh water circuit to treat everything out of the tank, not just the WM output. Edgar, if you want to email me the PDF, I'll upload it on my site and will post the link. or maybe Les can put it on BE somwhere, tghat would make more sense.

John we are indeed in the abs now. Orchid Bay. Power is sporadic due to the main power plant fire I suppose. There are four other boats here. The weekend had some charters but otherwise the place is dead. Further South? Not until after the holidays at least. We know nothing about the points south of here but are willing to give it a shot. There are a number of places we want to see but weather is going to play a strong hand. The folks in that...

I appreciate the input but at the moment I'm not sure I would need anything. The Davit I have may by able to swing out to the side enough to clear a platform. if not I wouldn't need much help to push it off. Mike I went up to your boat today and took several pictures of you platform supports and sent them to the company to see what it would cost to make. The price I was given includes stainless supports as many as 6 but I like the...

I was heading upstream in a 21' cuddy and had a 28' wooden boat on the wall just ahead of me in the lock. I was standing on the bow holding the rope while my passenger used a boat hook to help keep the boat stable. As the lock begain to fill the alone captain could not control his boat and his bow swung away from the wall as the boat began to spin 360 degrees. I jumped into the cockpit and ...

Okay, I bit and wasted my time reading the article. You could have just said that NDZ's did not make sense since the Cities can't follow the rules. Nothing in the article specifically about boating.

Bob, Sorry to be a cross-poster, but I have a comment to your question. Yes, you can certainly assemble your own watermaker. My cousin owns a residential water treatment company, but is also a boater. He has built a number of watermakers over the years for friends. This way you can customize exactly to your needs.

Go slow, it's not a race. Plenty of fenders. When you think you've got enough get a couple more. The process is simple with your size you'll likely go first if there's more than one boat to lock through. If its a busy lock you'll need fenders on both sides for rafting up smaller boats to you. I'm not familiar with that lock though. Follow the directions of the lockmaster and you'll do fine. ...

Add roughly 3000 pounds for a trailer and you're now at 16,000 pounds. Well above all but the most beefiest vehicles. Can be done but requires the proper equipment AND experience.

I highly recommend the Spectra watermakers with the MPC digital control panel. They self clean themselves once a week so you do not have to pickle the unit between extended uses. Mine makes 8 gallons an hour. Draws 8 amps total at peak production runs off 12 vots. Bill

with AGM ventilation isnt' an issue... if you go for the cheaper lead acid as long as the space is not in living quarters and there is minimal ventilation, it's fine too. you could use the inverter bank for house duties. easier than adding a dedicated house bank since that would been replacing the charger to a 3 bank unit. when runnin on inverter, leave the Nervercold on DC power...
