We are a family of four and the boat more than suits our needs, my kids are 4 and 2.  We love the two full heads with showers although our rear shower has been demoted to lifejacket storage.  Trim tab area is a big issue and one you may find needs improvements.  The aft cabin windows are a problem since the old gray plastics ones suffer UV degredation they are only $150 each for new ones.  The tank...

Opinions on gas v diesel breakeven

I enjoyed the post and all info provided.  I like the comment on 1600 hrs on a 671 is just broke in and also the comment that 671's are work horses and bullet proof. I have a pair of 671 Naturals with about 2200 hrs and they are great motors but remember the yearly maintenance cost is also up there.  Changing oil in two motors uses about 16 gallons of 40 wt. oil  (that's gallons not quarts).  Also...

Thanks, Bob...will do. I'm sure Jim will be glad to hear from you. I know exactly which boat is yours...I passed it several times last summer. We were looking at the 40' Sea Ray that is docked at Bordentown. Let's be sure to hook up next summer!

Onboard Battery Charger
Published (2009-11-26 18:27:00)
A friend of mine a a graphic demonstration of a crossed wire short.  Believe me it was not pretty.  One recommendation by an electric type was to fuze both positive and Neg at the Battery terminal.   and both fuzes should be no more that than one step over the rated output of the charger (ie: 6A charge = 7.5A fuze) I did not think it made too much sense until he point out that if anyother circuit...

You might want to go to the David Pascoe site - he has discussed this topic in detail. Diesel is good for boats that have are run at high power loadings for extended periods of time on a rgular basis. They do not like to be run for relatively short period of time, and they do not like to sit unused. If you are a "typical" boater who puts in 100 hours a year on a boat that weighs 15,000 ...

125 is certainly not bad. A motor not ran much can have a low cylinder that gets better later. I once bought a boat that had one down to 85 and after a few runs it was well over 110. My rule has always been 10% between high and low for perfection and what you have now isn't that far off. I wouldn't worry about it...

Did they shut down the marina, or are they unable to pay their electric bill? We stayed there 11/6-11/8 and they could barely fill our trawler's tanks (around 80 gallons) because they said they were unable to inventory fuel. It's a shame as it's a beautiful marina. I saw your boat across the ICW and it looks as beautiful in person as it does in the profile picture. Mike

I'd also be concerned about the seals, gaskets and other soft parts like impellars. It may pay to take the bowl off the boat and remove any pther parts so you are just cleaning the ceramic bowl itself and nothing else.

Buy an RV water system pump. It has a vinyl hose with a standard hose male end and another hose you place in the bottle of antifreeze. Just pump it in. They cost about 15 bucks.

I have one thru-hull on a black strip and if I recall correctly it is painted with the black anti-foul paint used on the bottom. You might want to try this stuff:

Are they stripped or thru bolted? I would think the cleats would be thru bolted, but mine were just the oppsite the rails were thru bolted and the cleats were screwed. You could start withe putty knife under the cleat and work up to a larger pry bar from there, or drill them out and thru bolt them.
