How about a weekly household meeting? DH and I keep our own paper calendars, but we talk through the week every Sunday night at our household meeting.
Everybody brings their calendar to dinner and it's a time to talk through the week including who needs what, who has deadlines looming, whose
household
chores may be slacking ...

This question begs the question: Why aren't teaching evaluations as good as they need to be?
Problems with teaching evaluations could result from any number of issues such as:
-Graduate programs are notorius for not teaching their students how to teach. Consequently, one doesn't know
how to communicate ideas/concepts to a group
of students.

Yes, sounds a bit tricky. But, I am wondering if it might help to think about this in practical terms. Instead of thinking of just pulling away, think about
pulling away from specific things.
For example, it is important that you have at least one departamental faculty mentor. Will that be him? Or, would you like someone else? Either way, you might
want to formalize this ...

I honestly have NEVER thought of teaching as including lecturing. This is because I remember my own experience in lectures as supremely boring. I often get
complaints from students that I don't lecture enough (!!!)
