Hi Valery, My gut reaction is Spotted Flycatcher, the breast markings bleached out - the upper breast appearing rather hot. The structure, bill etc would support this. As to the dark centers to the undertail coverts, I'm not sure why they appear quite so extensive. A trawl of net images reveals a few birds with the odd dark centre such as here - http://www.richardrevelsphotography....FLYCATCHER.jpg . Mmmm, could be wrong

So, 2 nights at Laguna Blanca had now turned in to 5 (so far) and meal times were being spent trying to re-jig the remaining itinerary to cover as much ground as possible in an ever-diminishing time period. Unless we wanted to dip on every other target, this really was make or break time. We spent the morning in a beautiful marsh, with the familiar sensation of soaking feet. The flora here was extraordinary, with the added attraction of...

I have lots of drawings in my sketch books I'd like to try and paint, so here is the avocet again, only this time in oil. when it's dry tomorrow I'll add a line of light to the top edge to bring it out of the background. I'm still experimenting with how to get my sketch to the painting and color. I'm working on how to keep the feeling of lightness and how the bird is just here temporarily could ...

i do recall that i read somewhere that the wilson's snipe's outer tail
feathers are about 2X larger than the South American Snipe...I just don't
remember where i read that though - or how large either of their tail
feathers are.

Hmm I will try and have a look the next time I'm at Minsmere where they have the 8x32 LXL. From memory and trying them in the shop the L's were a bit brighter than my HG/LX's but didn't seem to have as much contrast. I've not tried them directly outside and won't get the chance properly until the 29th.
I know you get used to the view through your own bins but personally I prefer the view ...

Hi, yes is also a Ring-billed Gull.It however is a 2nd winter bird therefore younger than the nearby adults, which explains its darker iris and duller legs and bill.

Sometimes it just easier to start from the recovery disc and erase everything.
I keep my pictures on an external drive just for that reason.

We seem to have the CT, GT, BT's coming in one group, followed by the Chaffies, Goldies & Greenies. Then one big group of Sparrows. Makes a change from about 2 weeks ago when there wasn't much visiting.
Even though the increased number of Birds, the Sparrowhawk seems to have lost his timing and visiting when there is nothing about. Yesterday he sat in the rain for over an hour and still ...

Nice photos there Neil.
I've not seen a Green Woodpecker for ages, it's one of my "bogey" birds have to try and get down to the Chase again sometime next week see if I have more luck.
Thanks for the tip on the Starling roost at JCB, Dean, I think I'll try and get up there to have a look this afternoon as it's not far from me.

Just back from a lovely two days in glorious sunshine.Saw the Shrike at Royden on Thursday so didn't have to drag my wife around the bog After lunch at Holme I was rewarded by being left at Titchwell while my wife did the galleries and shops along the coast. Great day and all the usual birds.
Friday was spent along the coast to Cley and Salthouse but no Snow Buntings. No Black Brant either or ...

So, after several weeks batting emails to and fro, an itinerary was decided
on. The first half was straightforward, as I've not birded cerrado or chaco
before and the key birds were pretty predictable. The second leg was built
around my target list - most people would spend significantly more time in
Atlantic forest where species such as Helmetted Woodpecker amongst others
are possible. My ...

30 Waxwings on John O Gaunts way this afternoon, as I set off to the shops! They have been outside home on Jodrell Ave again and then Richard Taylor got them on Ashop Road late on. A school mum reported 100 in her garden near Alton Manor yesterday - I quizzed her on them but she said a chap knocked on the door to tell her in case "loads of binoculars turn up"!! So, they must be around still in ...

You're up late Jaff!
Now watch everyone gripe about the 18MP and the fact it'll probably be quite expensive too*.
I'm going to buy one though, I've been ready to upgrade from my 400D/xTI for a while now and was hanging on to see what Canon would release this year. This one seems to tick most of the boxes........
Edited to add: *Actually it's only $1699 on Canon's US website and I guess ...
