I use Stabil as a stabilizer. I use Sea Foam as a cleaner. My opinion is that is the optimal use of each product.

Rocketman, you state you used Castrol in your bike, mostly in a 20W50 going to 10/40 during cold spells. This is what I use in part because it is economical and readily available. (My local O'Reilly's auto supply stocks Castrol 4T motorcycle oil.) I considered syn. in my airhead but ultimately stayed with Dino and Castrol.

Hmm, not sure about that Matchbox/green relay and its wiring. That may be complicating things since we are reading a stock wiring diagram. Same goes for the non-OEM flasher relay. It may work, but typically LED bulbs require higher resistance than incandescent. As far as fuses go, there are only 2 fuses that come on the bike, as noted. They aren't real convenient nor easy to see with all the wiring, further complicated when modifications...

another airhead question: OIL
Published (2009-11-20 11:35:00)
I am stealing this idea from the K bike thread. Can you run synthetic in airheads? For that matter, what happens when you put synthetic oil into a machine that has been using regular oil for years (1000's of miles)? When is it dangerous to run synthetics in any bike?

With the automotive engines that I rebuild, I use dino for the first 3,000...and then switch to synth...I'm certain that others may have different approches, but I wouldn't be too quick to make the switch...

Great bike. You're doing the right thing. Bring it up to date maintenance wise and you'll be able to ride it pretty much worry free. Those white saddle bags really should be on a "Motosport" model. I'll bet someone here will be willing to trade you a set of black ones for them.

Sandblasting everything didn't help the rust problem, but at least I was aware of the extent of the damage. I sand-blasted the case and everything as well, and it turned out nice. (..and yes, I know, I sand-blasted the mating surfaces. Those will be cleaned up with sandpaper or emery cloth.)
After my first coat of paint, I was pleased. (..and yes, I realized I painted the mating ...

Larry,
Tho it's harder w/ the side cases on, you can still grab the rear hand grips. It's not so much that you're lifting the bike with the right hand, rather you're pushing down with your leg on the center stand. The right hand is for balance, mostly but also helps with inertia.

I can't speak from experience on quality and taste but your large camping stores seem to have a large selection of dehydrated meals. (REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, etc.)

I picked this up in Seattle as a parts bike a few years back- as I began to strip it out, it looked better the further I went. Turned out to be a lot less wrong with it than I thought, so I started putting it back together, tweaking as I went- traded some work for the S fairing, complete with instruments n harness, and- can you believe- already color matched to the bike!
Has about 90k on it...
