I'm guessing that you accidentally interpreted them as setting the start and end times of a "period" similar to operating range.

I was going to suggest a similar kind of thing - a standardised matrix command set (IP) that control system manufacturers could use over IP that was implemented within the Video over IP boxes. Then you configure the boxes by means of a web interface which selects standard inbuilt command sequences for popular switches... or you can add a set of custom strings/responses. Users can contribute their own strings to a library and the control...

Thanks for that Peter and Karam, very helpful. I would be interested in sensors on flying leads actually, and it would be even more interesting if there was a way to do that with modules that have PIR and light capabilities... though I imagine that's far more difficult. There are some spaces where finding an appropriate ceiling location is tricky just from an aesthetic point of view. Thanks for the Farnell tip-off Karam, it does look like...

Yep, we were up for a new edition of MS Office a year or two ago, and when we went to buy it we were assured all we actually needed was an update at a fraction of the cost (still not cheap), which seemed great ... only, for one reason or another, we took a while to get around to installing it, and when we did it refused to load, because it didn't like what we had already - which also was ...

I had been looking at replacing my NSLU2 for a while as the NTFS emulation leave a bit to be desired and I was going to store greatly larger amounts of data and need backups. The smallish amount of critical data is ROBOCOPYied to a NSLU2 in my garden shed via IP over mains. This is what I started out to do (From an earler UKHA_D post but included here for completeness): I went for a green ...

I have a newly installed Worcester Greenstar CDi with the DT10RF Digistat. I'm not happy with the degree of control offered by the DT10RF (only a single program for all 7 days) and would like to replace the CH Thermostat bit with a Honeywell RF programmable thermostat that I already own (because this has a separate program for each day and better extension and holiday functions). I'm quite ...

Welcome eurosoba. Just one of the 'joys' of X10 I'm afraid. Usually something noisy on the mains that's stopping the X-10 signal propagating to / from a particular socket. You can try unplugging everything in the house (including things like fridges) and then see if the X10 works. If it does you may be able to use a filter like this on the offending appliance... http://www.laser...

It would help if you gave more details - type, make & model of boiler, description of system (combi for hot water, separate cylinder with 2 x 2-port valves or a 3-port mid-position valve etc).

good quality six or whatever socket strips are pretty inexpensive, and current-wise the demands are quite modest, so our plan is to neatly bury everything (13A sockets, wall-warts, USB & Ethernet & CT100 patch-panels, whatever) inside box compartments fronted by a lift-up flaps, with the flaps having notches for the leads to come out ... and the hinge(s) on the lower edge of the flap and the ...

If you are using X10, then this doesn't use any new wiring. X10 utilises the existing mains wiring in your house. What X10 does is it transmits a digital signal over your mains wiring. Now to do the scenario you suggested would require some form of Home automation controller, such as a Homevision unit www.csi3.com . This can be programmed when you pause the DVD player it brightens the lights...

Are you arming the system at all. I think when you arm the system the keypad for lighting control stops working. Also there is an auto arm feature, which looks like what is happening, so the console will at a set time arm itself.
