Go on a date where you will totally get OUT of your heads and NOT think about your jobs. Thinking: something with some adrenaline (roller coasters, ziplining) or intense physical activity, or a movie, or something distracting where you are not going to just be sitting and yakking. My rule of thumb is if my spouse doesn't like it, and I am doing something I would not do in front of him (hiding things from him and such), then it's inappropriate.
In this situation, if the husband is doing this behind his wife's back and knows she wouldn't like it, it is inappropriate.
If this were going on in my marriage, I'd consider it inappropriate.
