just keep adding ammonia, the bacteria needs something to feed off of.. youve got the concept right. the only suggestion i would have is to work on the ph of that water. the ph up is definately not a good idea. It will bring the ph up, for a little while, then crash again. A better idea would be to look at some sort of buffer. Is the well water going through any sort of filtration system?

I used slate, since we have a TON of it here, and some granite. You could just stick your gravel in a bucket outside, put a hose in it as far down as you can get it, and let the water "flush" the gravel overnight. That is what I did with my sand and it worked great. Good luck!

You`ll need to read those links I posted first. Then you`ll need to QT all fish and treat. You`ll need to leave your DT fishless for 8 weeks to break the life cycle of the parasite. The ich medicine that you put in the tank will not work. It looked better because alot of the parasites fell off to the substrate in which 200 little ones called tomites will come from each individual parasite. Later it will be worse than it was yesterday. BTW I`m...

Water Changes EDIT: perhaps I should rephrase the question to "why are pwc needed?" Hi, First of all, I am no expert at all and am learning. I'm wondering if pwc's are truly necessary if water tests continually remain acceptable and no activity raises the need like after using meds, etc. Ever since I setup my tank I've been ...

Bubble in front seal of 92g corner bow I got this tank recently and decided to do a fill test before winter, and before making a space for it. Test went fine, 72 hours+ w/power head & heater and no leaks or anything. I drained it and was getting the last remnants of water out when I noticed this bubble in the front seal, about 8 inches ...

Hi all. I found some good info on this site before and haven't been around for awhile but am back and want some new fish for my tank. Its a 50 gal with an Eheim 2217, two 25 watt 36" T8 tubes with ballast overdriven, flourite substrate, driftwood, and plants as seen in the pictures here. Its been up and running for about 5-6 months now. A lot of the vals have died off, and I went through a bout ...

While underfed plecos have been known to attack and eat other fish, it isn't really possible for them to do so in a way that doesn't leave a mark.

Before I got high light...I had a nice looking continuous flolor covering that was riverstones with java moss tied around them. I used fishing line to do this. I still have some of the stones. It looks very nice and soft. I also like this because the moss grows quickly and can be trimmed to add more and more moss covered stones. It was also nice because I could use the stones to ancor other...
