So I posted a thread 3 weeks ago with a reasonable problem and question.
129 hits later not one thought or reply of any type! Is there a moderator
with a least
basic skills? Even I have thoughts about the issue, I just
need help. This is a repair help forum not a blog chat room for reading
pleasure. Close the forum or run it properly. As it is, it functions as an
unnecessary delay for those that ...

I am not sure where your problem is, but the bolt should be right under the cap, and you probably need to use a 7/16" socket with extension and not a 5/16".

Please be sure to check that your cord connected at the dryer has nutral in
the middle or at the white wire ... Then make sure no leads are not
grounded to the dryer frame or eachother ... Then reset your breaker at the

I am assuming your picture is how the unit is connected now with the 3 wire line cord.
The red and the black are OK.
You may have to dig further into the unit to find the ground strap.
This is a wire or flat copper connection that connects the yellow (center terminal) to the frame of the unit. Perhaps I just cannot see it in the picture or this terminal is shorted to the frame by the ...

The model number you posted does not come up even on GE web site. Is it an
American model?
If it says "12 hours" on the original timer then you can use the new one with no questions.

I can't figure out how to do it. How do I remove the top where the controls
are? I removed the knobs and I don't see how to remove the protective
cover. I removed the
cooktop mostly from the counter and I can see a couple
of screws on the fron - will this allow access to the harness?

Well, you can spend at least $350.00 including tax and delivery for
a new machine, or you can spend about $16.00 including shipping on this part and take an hour of your time and repair it and have a machine functioning as it was before. Your choice.
Here is the coupling.
Part number: AP3963893
and here is a video which will show you how to make the repair.

Check your coupling, sounds like it may be in the process of breaking up. On the way in check to make sure nothing is caught in the pump or drain hoses.
