Prop 8 fight goes Federal
Published (2009-12-21 17:35:00)
QUOTE(Blackstone @ Dec 21 2009, 11:02 AM) That's not necessary for me to spell out, any more than I'd need to go into detail about what exactly the difference is between a man and a woman beyond certain anatomical features. But just as it's perfectly obvious that there is a substantial difference between them above and beyond those features, it's also obvious that relationships are substantially different...

QUOTE(Blackstone @ Dec 21 2009, 11:23 AM) On the basis that the nature of rights under our Constitution is that they're negative rights - i.e., rights to not be inhibited or imposed on in a certain way; not positive rights - i.e., rights to have the state or society confer some benefit on you. 1) The Declaration of Independence, the philosophical foundation of our government, clearly states some positive rights of man:...

A couple notes, to address what I feel are the most salient points. QUOTE(Mrs. Pigpen @ Dec 21 2009, 05:05 PM) QUOTE(Raptavio @ Dec 21 2009, 04:15 PM) Yes, because adoption, like I said, is a legal process. As such, it fundamentally involves the law. Well...law is a set of rules passed and enforced by government. So....the scenario we're speaking of would be a legal process as well, yes? It would not be...

When Does Life End?

Maybe Maybe Not , your argument is getting increasingly tautological. You keep deeming as irrelevant or ignoring all of the critically important criteria that make these two situations different, and then only considering those few facets of the situations that are similar, and then asking why they are not treated identically. They are not treated identically by the very realities you define away as not relevant. The fact that a person with a...

9/11 trial to be held in New York

QUOTE Raptavio I count four uses of "imo" as the basis of your argument in your last post alone. At least I use it. You post your opinion and squat else. Want to post something? Your opinion of the brave men of Blackwater is despicable imo. But hey lets spend more and get less - Dems policy forever. Always government over private. QUOTE You cannot build a credible argument that Clinton is responsible for 9/11, that...

Ted what makes you think Iraq will do well? How do you know the problems there won't go on for a few decades? And what I've said about the oil subject. and the fact that so many countries are in decline, and each year there is less oil in the world than the year before. If the social and development issues in Iraq don't improve, the flow of oil will be very little, and won't meet the world demand in that time.

Are there other examples of front rank sportsmen and women whose homosexuality is seen as neither here nor there to their sporting prowess? In Denmark we have Anja Andersen . Easily the greatest handball player of her generation; also well known for her individualism and foul temper . Does coming out once that prowess has already been demonstrated beyond question, as with Thomas (or, say, Martina Navratilova) change the way that the news is...

QUOTE(Ted @ Dec 21 2009, 10:10 AM) Public skepticism about the officially promoted cause of global warming has reached an all-time high among Americans. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 50% of likely voters now believe that global warming is caused primarily by long-term planetary trends. Just 34% say climate change is due primarily to human activity, Ted, it must make you feel good to see that...

But we havenââââ¬Å¡¬âââ¬Å¾¢t yet decided the criteria on which we base a determination of death. Thatââââ¬Å¡¬âââ¬Å¾¢s the point. Thatââââ¬Å¡¬âââ¬Å¾¢s WHY this White Paper exists ! Is a civilian trial, rather than a military commision, the right venue to try KSM and his alleged co-conspirators? Why or why not? This is good. This should absolutely be a criminal trial, not a military trial. Why? Because terrorism is a crime. In a nation of laws crimes should be tried in public. It seems there was enough to tie them to this crime to keep them locked up for this long...

Questions for debate: 1. Is there a correlation between childhood obesity and the decline of physical education in public schools? I would suggest the proper question would be whether there is a causal relationship between the two. There may be - but in which direction, that's the question. For my part, my kids' phys ed requirements are no different than mine, so there is no decline ...

1. Does this information show that the NIE information was inaccurate? Yes, but not as inaccurate as one might think. The "key" to being able to develop a nuclear weapon is the production of fissile material. There are two basic ways to make the fissile material: enriching uranium, or harvesting plutonium from a reactor. The method of enriching uranium is the big secret, and fortunately ...

Do you cure everyone through a mass injection programme? Yes I would, at least every one who wished to be cured. 1. Does the revelation of the correspondence in these emails change the dynamic on how you look at anthropogenic climate change? On inept generals, my contention is that these are smart (=highly trained + experienced) guys on the whole, yet real-world conditions dictate some will fall short of the great responsibility of leading an armed forces group to victory. Is hatred always an evil? Yes. QUOTE( Booker T. Washington @ Up from Slavery) I would permit no man, no matter what his colour might be, to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate him.
