The following movie is about somebody practicing Lords prayer and getting prophesying gift. This thing is in reality as well, people do truly obtain the gift of prophecy through Lord's prayer. Rebecca (Rivkah) Only 3 Years Old?
Published (2009-12-19 16:47:00)
And what does Rashi offer as his explanation for Abraham and God both calling a 37-year-old man a "na&ar" - boy? Gen 22:5 Then Abraham said to his servants, "You stay here with the donkey. The boy [NA&AR] and I will go up there; we will worship and we will return to you." Gen 22:12 And he said, "Do not raise your hand against the boy [NA&AR], or do anything to him. For now I know that...

"can we say they are part of Judah tribe? " No; to have tribal status one must be a Jew, and Christians are not Jews. In addition, both the mother and father must be Jews. Jewish travels along maternal lines, while tribal status is passed by the father.

When I tell my Christian friends that the bible, especially Torah, is the beginning of inquiry not the end of it, they look at me like I've just grown a second head! Some have a hard time getting past Torah as a history book to its true meaning as books of moral and ethical teachings. When I tell them that there is no conflict between belief in G-d and science they start fitting me for a white jacket with long sleeves that tie in the...

As far as "accepting" goes. Like Hanalah, I'm also unclear about what you mean by acceptance. God accepts anyone who desires to reach out to Him. God accepts a sincere heart. As Jews we try to emulate God and acknowledge anyone who wants to know God sincerely. What more is there to accept? That doesn't mean that such a person is Jewish. They arent' required to be and we wouldn't expect someone to convert....

I did check it out. Yes, it does seem logical that if energy cannot be created or destroyed, then the Big Bang didn't create the energy that eventually formed our universe but rather was a change in state by some pre-existing energy which one could call the body of Gd or a manifestation of the Absolute. In Vedanta, there is a teaching about varying levels of philosophical elements; space, air, fire water and earth. These are not elements...

Rebecca (Rivkah) Only 3 Years Old?
Published (2009-12-19 01:53:00)
Rashi's comment is based on two unwarranted assumptions about the chronology of events recorded in the chumash. 1. That the binding of Isaac took place when he was 37 years old. 2. Rebecca was born immediately after the binding. Assumption 2. comes from the statement immediately after the return from the binding that Abraham hears of family news from Mesopotamia which includes mention of Rebecca's birth. Assumption 1 comes from the...

Are Christians part of Judah tribe?

After reviewing my original answer, I deleted it because I really didn't answer your question. to really answer you question...the tribe of Judah was the last group to get captivity..it was a smaller group and after they were done, some did convert, but many did not. the ones who did not went to Jerusalem with Judaism almost completed. So probably some Christians came out of that captivity, but not many, so most Christians are from the...

You'll say how do we know that Holy Communion is actually blood? Actually there are some miracles like the one in Lanciano when Bread and wine become flesh and blood of God, actual flesh and blood. Analyzed in laboratory in today's day, they didn't decay for 1000 + years they seem to be genetically from a man from Israel. As anything that belong to God they are extra Holy.

" It philosophically is classified as panentheism or monistic idealism and is similar to the philosphy of Spinoza" more along the lines of Pantheism. Monistic idealism is also a part of pantheism and Spinoza talked about Pantheism. Spinoza also supposedly came from a jewish family who " converted" to christianity

Rashi (who says "3 years old") was trying to reconcile the chronology, particularly that Isaac was 37 at the time of he Akedah, Rivka was born right after and Isaac married at age 40. Other commentators disagree, so obviously they didn't take Rashi's explanation as definitive. See here for some discussion: http://dovbear.blogspot.com/2005/11/how-o ld-was-rivka-when-she-married.html http...

Great article, thanks for posting it. I grew up wanting to ask so many questions but most of them I didn't ask, because in my household and community, most questions were responded to negatively, such as: "What, are you writing a book?" or "What is this, 20 questions?" or some other sarcastic answer, without actually addressing the question. This frustrated me to no end. To this day, most...

Kabbalah is not a faction. It is one of the 4 levels of depth that the Torah can be understood. Nor is it what is in vogue currently in hollywood. That is just new age-ism with some Hebrew words and thoughts thrown in. Chassidism does not differ in its beliefs from traditional Torah Judaism. They began as a movement that differed in where to place the emphasis when serving God but do not ...

I do have some words about what kind of spiritual realm you're entering with a medieval work named Kabalah and I can say only stay away. I don't see Old Testament prophets dying suddenly and this usually happends to magicians when sick angels had obtained power over them and kill them. Once a sick angel gets power over the magician the bad spirit can act in magician's family, home, ...

Hi all, I got around to starting my Hebrew studies and am just now using a library book to get started. Please help me with your recommendations for good books and/or websites that are good sources for learning. I'm currently very much a beginner... have just learned the alphabet, how to read it, write it, and pronounce it, and some vocab words and a few phrases. (Mah zeh? Zeh sefer.) ...

Thanks Hanalah. Regarding " love thy neighbor as thyself" ... what if a neighbor is, for example, an angry alcoholic who does and says many inappropriate things? How does Jewish Wisdom encourage a person to interact with and think about such a person? To my knowledge, I don't have such a neighbor, but have encountered such people, not knowing how to respond. Not wanting to condone or ...

I'd like to see some discussion of this passage. What would provoke anyone to vote "no" that this is not a helpful discussion topic? It's from the Tanach -- the prophet Isaiah.
