Lionel-- Re: how sex is handled in the movies. How about fat slob Phillip Hoffman violently banging naked Marissa Tomei from behind. Isn't that a lovely opening scene for a picture as you're settling in with some hot buttered popcorn and a soda? Re: "Beauty is truth, truth beauty" (etc) And all this time I thought that was Rob Morrow as Dick Goodwin in QUIZ SHOW (1994). (wink)

After the song, the boy's parents seemed concerned about his expression; he looked totally perplexed. When the service ended they asked him what the matter was, and he said the song made him sad because he felt...

Tomers, Just to let everyone know that we are soon starting Thomas Hardy's THE RETURN OF THE NATIVE. Those interested in actively discussing our reads ... as we have done with THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE and are doing with BLOOD MERIDIAN ... are encouraged to begin thinking about a top 10 list of books they wish to read and discuss here. This is a great idea. Thanks guys! May I suggest a film for next week's discussion? Alfred Hitchcock's NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959). . Also, since I can't be here this afternoon, I'd like to repost my review of today's movie: . SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (1952) is a pure delight! All of its songs were composed by that prolific team of Arthur Freed and Nacio Brown, and not just the few sung ...

Then, watch the great screwball comedy that follows - ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (1944) - starring Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, Jack Carson and Josephine Hull. Ah yes, this ...

Peter Bogdonovich studied acting with Stella Adler, but by age 20 he was already directing stage plays. After bit roles in a couple of Roger Corman's late-60s American International movies, Peter directed Mamie Van Doren in the cult fave, VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN (1968). Bogdonavich narrates this picture. In his very next directorial effort, another cult classic ...
