just plain Good Richard (JPGR) says: "...Decca's Mike Smith (or was it Mike Rowe)?" He was a Dick. Dick Rowe. Mike Smith was his second-in-command and he loved Pete's band.

I wonder if there are some skeletons, still in their work clothes and still shackled to their desks in punishment for being such pompous presumptuous azzwipes at the capitol building.

Capitol claimed that they "knew" the American market better than EMI did, and that the Beatles would not go over here at all. I wonder if anyone at Capitol was related to Decca's Mike Smith (or was it Mike Rowe)?

I mentioned this on another post and would like to share it here. I have been absolutely floored recently with the 40th Anniversary Remaster/Remix of King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King. According to the liner notes, the album was originally recorded on an 8-track machine, but had so much overdubbing, it required a good bit of bouncing down (a term you Beatlemaniacs should be very familiar with) to make room before finishing...

I have to wonder what we will see from the really big Apple this year. Is this going to be the year we finally have a release of Let It Be? What else are we waiting for from the vaults?

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1562172,0 0.html On ''I Want to Hold Your Hand,'' was the crowd noise lifted off the Hollywood Bowl live album? SIR GEORGE: Actually, the front speakers [in the 5.1 mix] have the studio recording, and the rear speakers have the band performing at the Hollywood Bowl. They're in tune with each other, and we found a way to match them. We wanted to put across Beatlemania at some point. The...

DKPETE first off Happy Holidays to you and your family. Secondly it is the entire show. And it's good, real good. The cd is the entire concert also. I got it for Christmas. My wife got it at Bestbuy and we also have the 4th disc. The DVD of the Letterman Show.

I just hope that Revolver and Sgt. Pepper are also released in mono and stereo. The mono Pepper is still the better version. For that matter all the LPs should be released in original mono and stereo up through and including the White Album. IMHO

Hi Norcs...the many versions of the albums, re-issues, refurbishings, etc...that's really a whole topic in and of itself...a different book can be written by each and every fan as to what the point is of having multiple copies of the same record and so on..it's also a very personal thing so there's really no singular wrong or right answer on that one. As far as their significance/ ...

I really did not care for Rock and Roll. McCartney albums were mostly the kind John labeled granny music. He did improve with lyrics with a little more bite. Of the McCartney albums I liked the Russian Album, the oldies covers. So that leaves George I guess. But I liked mostly selected songs, not albums. He never had a good album with 12 good songs after ATMP. And Ringo was always fun, so...

Well, for a one LP album it would have been really good. Side 4 was just junk. Uninspired junk.

I'd like to start a trading group if anyone is interested. We'd use pando to send files/albums to each other. I've already done this with Dibbity, Dee Zee, William, and Spiritual, and myabe one or two others. I'm wondering if any of you would be willing to join a trading group. There's stuff I just can't find that I am sure some of you might have. Let me know if you're interested.

I have nothing in the way of information, but I second your suggestion. I'm just glad that Olivia is dedicated to keeping George's music out there and in excellent presentations.

As far as those three go, I would give the edge to Sgt. Pepper. I just feel the Pepper mono rocks so much stronger than the Stereo, I almost prefer it. As far as the remasters overall go, I would say it's a tossup between Please Please Me and Rubber Soul.

If I ever meet Paul I want to ask him if it was true that he really died. I still think it was a brilliant plan by Epstein. But everyone who would seem to know say that it was all by accident.

One of the problems here is that some people freak out at just the mention of the word "compressed." Rock music has often used compression for effect. The original classic use of compression occurred in the 60s on Mono singles. The folks at Motown knew very well the power of compression as did Dave Clark - it made the singles seemingly louder, and more importantly made them stand out ...

The reason the poster thinks that is Take 1 is because he believes that is Paul singing. Lewisohn does state that one experimental take was done with Paul singing but he does not state which take that was. It's weird because at times it sounds like John, at other times it sounds like Paul and at other times it sounds like neither. If the vid with the recording of just John, Ringo and ...
