Was America Founded By Genocide?

Borrowed Design: Use and Abuse of Historical Form IF respondents to the original question or read the above publication, then there would, in fact, be a productive dialogue. For most persons who responded to my post, I think "historical illiteracy" and refusal to address the Question as stated makes this dialogue pointless and amesia of the facts is rampant as members answer all queries except the Query at the beginning....

"IF respondents to the original question..." The original question: "Was American Founded On Genocide?" is disingenous, as it is NOT apparent from ANY of the "Founding Documents" or writings of the "Founding Fathers" that it was the intent of the founders, in 1776, or 1789 to establish a country by the use of genocide to create the United States. THAT is implied by the...

Historical atrocities abound. America is not perfect, since humans are all flawed sinners. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Being sinners does not mean America's ideals are flawed. On the contrary, our ideals espousing equal treatment under the law for ALL individuals remains a worthy aim. Going back for some kind of payment from today for past wrongs penalizes innocent people today. Those who...

"Was America Founded By Genocide?" While you may think this a profound observation, it's actually obvious and trite. As for "finding a solution," the idea is inherently absurd unless you've discovered a means of time travel. Bad things happen; you can't fix them. All you can is try to avoid repeating them.

Supreme Commander of Allied Forces, General Douglas MacArthur, PT gunboat skipper "Jack" Kennedy, and the fictional hero of this book, 20-year old jungle sniper Johnny Willman of San Diego and Hawaii, are all-American. The history of WWII in the South Pacific is, to a great extent, an American story. The events of TEETH take place against the closing days of the 2nd World War, as America drops the atom bomb on Japan. The...

So silly. The vast majority of Americans today are either immigrants themselves or the children of immigrants post 1850. Nobody should feel guilty nor "do anything" about perceived injustices from 200+ years ago. What were the original pilgrims supposed to do, sit in their little corner of the continent? Why are some "natives" more entitled than others? The world was less civilized then. As a...

Since that was over 500 years ago, I'm sure a few of them passed on due to natural causes as well. You state "almost all of them are dead". I'd love to meet the ones still alive.

I agree, but, like being a Christian, Patriotism is no longer accepted as the "default" position of Americans. As a junior high history teacher, I constantly urge my students to read and consider the opinions of Founding Fathers, and others who were unabashedly patriotic. More and more, I am challenged by parents who consider such patriotism "one-sided" or "unbalanced"! One seriously ...

First why we are there and our ally Great Britain: The terrorists were trained there and when we asked the government of Afghan to arrest Osama they said no. They they captured some religious workers and they were going to be killed since they were trying to convert some Muslims to Christianity. Can't do that under Sharia law. So we had two reasons to go in. That was noble. The Iraqi ...

I would recommend this trilogy of three handy small volumes of historical documents on American history. Great Issues in American History, Vol. I: From Settlement to Revolution, 1584-1776 Great Issues in American History, Vol. II: From the Revolution to the Civil War, 1765-1865 Great Issues in American History, Vol. III: From Reconstruction to the Present Day, 1864-1981 The Zinn ...

"...with, I'm hopeful, no political bias." Good luck with that one. You'll never find a history book anywhere that doesn't contain some historian's bias.

If you want real perspective about how messed up our cultural identity drifts away from what we actually do in the world study how and why the CIA overthrew a legally and democratically elected man and put the Shah back in power and helped create a truely hideous secret police in Iran. How many crimes against humanity does the CIA have to commit before someone, and who this could be with ...

I'd like to hear from anyone who has read Annis Ward Jackon's INTO THE TWILIGHT: THE TRUE ORIGINS OF ABE LINCOLN. It's an historical novel but carefully follows all the traditional lore that has existed for 200 years that insists that Lincoln was not born in Kentucky but in North Carolina, the illegitimate son of a wealthy and educated mountain farmer. The book is more about Lincoln's ...

A bio of Jacb Riis by Tom Buk-Swienty was published recently and I read it and it was great. I think it may be what you are looking for regarding the general plight of immigrants in the latter half of the 19th century.
