raja-- If you GOOGLE: THE BOWERY (1933) dvd You'll see two ioffer.com listings for the movie that date back to April. Lowest price: $5. It may not still be available, though. There's a couple of other results on that GOOGLE page, like a $14.95 Movies Unlimited listing and a free stream.

Ronzo I just lost the early version of this posting, so you get the abbreviated format. (You must have been good today!) First off, yes, drats this form of communication. It is difficult to interpret without facial expression exactly what's being communicated always. But let me tell you that even without your visage, I didn't think for a moment that you were saying you didn't like my choices. For starters, you aren't that...

Of course most anything is available on the web, though they be bootlegs, and not the best quality sometimes. I could get Disneys' "Song of the South" if I really wanted a copy, from eBay or ioffer or sell.com. You could even get the entire 1966 television series "Batman" if you wanted. But it would not be clear and remastered... or legal, lol. It's nice that so much stuff is available on those...

Nancy, Re: MONSTERS BALL/Billy Bob Thornton---Halle Berry scene Well, why that scene is in the film is a question that only Billy Bob can answer and only Halle Berry can say why she agreed to do it. I don't know if it was a "necessary" scene in terms of advancing the story, but Mr. Thornton apparently felt that it was---or, just maybe he thought he could sell more tickets if moviegoers knew they could get a closer look...

Kim, ronzo, I'm just finishing the final two chapters of "Mayor" and I'll post tomorrow. Looking forward to Blood Meridian! I've enjoyed your comments. It's been great discussing this with you both. Dusty

REVIEW TITLE: "Vigilante unjust-ice" RIDE IN THE WHIRLWIND was scripted and produced by Jack Nicholson (with an assist from Roger Corman). It's the story of two innocent cowboys who are relentlessly pursued by a posse. While on their way to a cattle drive, Wes (Nicholson), Vern (Mitchell) and Indian Joe (Crosse) encounter hanging corpses-- the bodies of outlaws who've been dealt "...

Sounds a little silly to me (if it is actually true). Conspiracy? They released The Bells of St. Marys, and scads of religious films, but certain ones are on hold? There are many Christmas dvd's available so I don't understand withholding certain ones. I wonder who said that it's being fought over because of religious content.

Annie - Ah, yes. Such a warm, inviting room perfectly set up for fine viewing on the big screen. Think I'll grab a nice cold Canada Dry Ginger Ale and enjoy Tracy in his Oscar winning role. Then, watch the great screwball comedy that follows - ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (1944) - starring Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, Jack Carson and Josephine Hull. Ah yes, this ...

I can only give my own personal view here. This is really subjective, I suspect. I do both (view films and watch movies), depending on what motion picture I'm experiencing, or depending on my mood before choosing a flick to enjoy. "Watching a movie": scarfing popcorn as you see explosions, car chases, or funny scenarios. Basically a bit of escapism from the doldrums, and having fun. "...

This is a great idea. Thanks guys! May I suggest a film for next week's discussion? Alfred Hitchcock's NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959). . Also, since I can't be here this afternoon, I'd like to repost my review of today's movie: . SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (1952) is a pure delight! All of its songs were composed by that prolific team of Arthur Freed and Nacio Brown, and not just the few sung ...

Martin Scorcesse as the back seat pervert window peeker in Travis Bickel's (DeNiro) cab. That was one creepy peformance in "Taxi Driver". Francis Ford Coppola as a director in "Appocalypse Now".

Big Bopper #2: Usually Harry Morgan is confused with acerbic wit Henry Morgan, not classic era character actor Frank Morgan. Maybe you should hold on to that box, Bopper, someday it may become a priceless collectable.

I love the James Whale directed Universal films, especially Old Dark House "Have a Potato" The Val Lewton thrillers are also excellent The Body Snatcher, I Walked With a Zombie. There was a good set of those movies released a few years ago. Just about anything with Lon Chaney Sr. is sure to be interesting. The guy could be mesmerizing. When I was a kid, all day at school on Friday my...

Hi, Annie. Meet Me in St. Louis comes to mind instantly. I have to watch this in December. It's wonderful, colorful, with those great songs... The Boy Next Door, The Trolley Song, Skip to My Lou, Under the Bamboo Tree... and of course, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (which chokes me up because it's basically going to be their last Christmas there in the home they grew up in). And...
