My story is a bit at odds with the rest here because I picked up 'Cross Stitch' (that is the UK title for the first book) quite some years ago and could not really get into it. Could be because having picked it up for the time-travel aspect, there was very little of that after Claire's initial step through the stones. Anyway, when it got to the Witch trial, that was it for me. Burning at the stake has always been a topic that I...

I think I could certainly qualify as "a doorway full of a fine woman" after all the food I ate. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

The MacKinnon brothers and Jamie-yum. I am not sure I will stay up that late to finish Surrender. Perhaps Ride the Fire will be next when I the finish the MacKinnons.

I agree with the odd difference between the relationship between Jamie and John in the later Outlander series v/s the Lord John books. I knew something had to have happened but I couldn't recall what or when. Then I got to puzzeling about John's and Isobel's marraige and got confused all over again. I didn't know there waqs to be another Lord John book, I look forwarde to it.

Hi AnnetteF: Who's keeping alive grudges? No British King, Queen, or government of any sort has ever said: "We apologize for the brutality that our forebears practiced on our island's Irish and Scottish subjects, on Acadians who became our subjects, or Africans whom our subjects sold into slavery. Time doesn't matter in the face of that smug belief that what was done was justified. Besides, as I've said before,...

Interesting question HR. Danger to each other is another trigger for both Jamie and Claire. They have each gone into action and danger when the other was threatened. There is also an appreciation of pride in each for the other. They respect their spouse's need to react in a prideful manner on occasion. That may be more of a tolerance than a trigger, however.

BamaRose, Are you interested only in medieval non-fiction, or would you also enjoy learning about the period from historical fiction? I've read a lot of medieval historical fiction and can recommend a few things: Start with anything by Sharon Kay Penman, but especially her Wales Trilogy (Here Be Dragons, Falls the Shadow, The Reckoning). I also enjoy Margaret Frazer's mystery novels, some set in a convent and some that follow a...

H. Oller, I'm so glad that I "happened" to check out this new link. What a joy it was to see my "BamaRose" on the top of your comments. Your experience and insight seem to be right on target. I'm sure any help you give will be useful. I'm not an experienced traveler even though I did visit England when my son was stationed there a couple of years back. We also made a daytrip to France ...

Sounds kind of like " Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold!" by Terry Brooks. I haven't read it in years, but it could be what you are looking for.

Steelfaerie - well, you took the words out of my mouth! Except after reading page 814 and realizing it was over - I said it with the actual curse word, which of course, we're not allowed to sue on Amazon. I was so engrossed that I thought there would be another chapter [or 5:-)] resolving the issues with Jaime/Claire/John, not to mention Jem/Roger and William M. It's funny because the first...

I friend of mine loaned me Outlander last year during the summer. I was lucky since there were six books to keep me busy. I remember taking TFC and ABofSA to the beach with me at the end of the summer. I was also lucky because I only had a year to wait for the next one.

It is in VOYAGER that LJG tells Jamie he is going to marry Isobel. John tells Jamie that Isobel's father is too old to manage the estate anymore and Isobel and her mother are not up to it either. Their families have known each other for years and John considers it a suitable match. I don't remember any mention of how this came about, who suggested it first, etc. Whoever suggested the ...

Hi AnnetteF: I recommend Davina Porter's unabridged audiobooks to anyone who'll listen. My mom enjoyed them in the last years of her life, as she grew too tired to read. We both enjoyed DP's ability, (not common with many female narrators), to create distinct male character accents. As to Claire's snippy, pompous attitude in " Outlander": Claire lived with her uncle in a peripatetic ...

Willie's real father is of course, Jamie. Willie's real mother blackmailed Jamie into having sex with her and became pregnant by that one time. She soon married an old man whom she never had sex with, we are told. So her husband knew that the baby wasn't his. He was the Earl Of Ellesmere. He threatened to kill the baby, and was shot and killed the same day his wife died from birthing Willie...

Jean Auel The earth children series (Ayla) I doubt that it will be in 2010, tho. She tends to have 10 years or so between books. And, she ain't getting any younger, and neither am I!!!
