Do short barrels still perform..?
Published (2009-11-06 02:10:00)
It depends on the case and the bore for the most part. The short fat cases like the WSM's won't be affected by shorter barrels as much a longer case like a RUM. Shorten a RUM barrel below 26", (except the 375) and you will big drops in velocity and you will gain big with more barrel. The 338 WM is not an overbore. If you shorten a 300 WM or 7RM you will see bigger drops in vel. If you want to go with a 35 in a short barrel...

Bad idea for a boat for two reasons. First it would weigh way to much to try to get it off your truck and into the boat full of fuel. Second, unless your trailer was built to handle about a ton more than your rig weighs you are break something if you keep the tank in your boat and filled it up at a land based gas pump. Better to stay with smaller drums that a couple of guys can move around and discard as they are emptied.

Was going to post this in the ATV forum, but most are probably switching over to here. If you know some ATV'ers that don't snowmachine, pass this bit of info on to them. Just want to take the time to publicly give Kudo's and a thank you to TrailBoss, a member on this forum. He worked with state and borough officials in re-opening a trail that a nubie to the area decided he would just close off. The trail is now back open, yet...

Hopefully Joe Want will weigh in on this, but you can find boars wandering around year round. I would guess in two weeks a person could still see a bear or two.

pick one or the other and concentrate on that quarry.
moose and caribou are not predictably found in the same areas in the same time frame.
perhaps your needs would best be served by a trip at WACH, or a trip into gmu 17 for moose. one or the other is plausible, but both would require a great deal of luck... not to mention #600 or so of meat to be dealt with.

That pic was taken along the Yellowhead hiway around Cedarvale ... the Spirit Bear are all through the area from south of Kitimat up to Terrace and up to Kitwanga and over to the Portland Canal ... there are possibly some in Alaska in that area.

I had this problem with my old Predator, but it was beyond repair and the bottom had to be replaced. It was starting to pull pretty hard to one side and cavitate too much on turns.
If it is a single dent, I think you'll have a bunch of options, but I think the first I would explore would be the paintless dent repair that is offered for cars and trucks. I'd imagine with the self bailing ...

One of the local womens transitions homes immediately condemned this and our territorial MPs voting in favour of it as promoting violence against women
I'm still trying to figure out how these people equate responsible firearms ownership with violence against women, or anybody else for that matter.
But i'm preaching to the converted.

You can hunt on lots of public land near fairbanks. Some of the local fav spots are the Chena flood control project, Old Nenanna Hwy (Standard Creek), Murphy Dome/Cache Creek, Bonanza Creek, Chena Hot Springs Road, out the Rich Hwy toward Delta... on and on .. Basically, this time of year, I would keep a 22 or shotgun int he car/truck (or bow ) and just drive around. I REALLY liek to go out ...

A french press is the way to go for backcountry coffee. I have a stainless steel GSI model we take on all float trips. No longer made, but many other models out there. Makes 32 ounces. Packs with handle into itself, very tough. TSA gorilla and float trip approved. There are some lexan models out that are pretty popular as well. Check REI and Campmor. Just use your pot to boil some water on the ...

Well, after years of watching hunters go after Brown bears on tv and dreaming of getting stationed in Alaska one day and hunting them myself, it all came together for me last Wednesday. The season opened on Sunday and I had spent every day since then afield in search of a nice one with no luck until Wednesday. I did my research looking at topo maps, google earth, and scouting and picked a spot on...

I've more or less gravitated to the VXIII/FX Leupold line.
My current favorite is a FXII 4x33 on my mountain rifle. Light, compact, simple.
I do have a 3.5-10x and a 2.5-8x that I like very much as well.
I've wanted to try a Swarovski for some time- I can't hardly bring myself to break the piggy bank yet...
