Regret cuts both ways... Gee I wish I had followed my dreams become a professional pilot. Gee I wish I had Not followed my dream to become a professional pilot. I advise against using regret as a motivator since it can go both ways. However if you are already rich and have little to loose otherwise then there are fewer reasons against it. If flying does not work out then just go back to what you were doing. Skyhigh

Some quick reading has led me to understand the following. Please correct me if I'm wrong. ADS-B is GPS based. The target's GPS position is somehow transmitted to your aircraft. I assume that under this system, bearing information would be far more accurate than TCAS. TIS is a technology based on Mode S. A suitably equipped "Mode S" radar site is involved in the data transmission. Am I correct thus far? If so,...

Commercial Ride Tips
Published (2009-11-15 23:10:00)
As others have said, I always try to fly the day before a check ride, and it does seem to help keep me sharp. Keep your composure even if you think you may have failed. During my oral, the examiner pounded my weakness (systems) with several questions. In flight I bounced (hard) on my soft field landing. The rest of the check ride was fine though and I passed. It is very difficult to fly a 100% perfect check ride, but if you know your stuff and...

I've been out the last few days, but I'd like to thank Bill for making that call. I bleed blue As far as the spot on the ball. He was bobbling the ball in his hands, so he did not have positive control until he was already knocked back. He didn't have his feet on the ground when he had control until he stepped back. That means no forward progress. It was a crap-shoot. Historically, I know my Colts Defense is hit and miss, they...

Insight needed
Published (2009-11-18 21:44:00)
Ditto what rick, Ewf, and X have said. I would also encourage you to look at the business side of the airline industry. You have aircraft acquistion/fleet planning; on the corporate side you have aircraft sales and marketing. Just like "X" said, your timing could very well be perfect. Good luck to you! All the best. atp

Don't know what's in store, but I wish : 1. Major carriers had a full arsenal of airplanes to meet market demand. Big jets for big markets, small jets for new markets, and turboprops for small markets. Regionals/Feeders wouldn't exist. 2. Companies and Unions would meet and say " We want to make money, and we want you to make money"....and would work collectively to make it so, instead of fighting each other....

Planespotta, I'll chat with you! I have to charge you for my valuable time though, but since you are a member of good standing, I'll cut my fee in half. And now if only I could get TonyC to join us.
The real question is why YOU would want to chat with ME.

First of all, I don't advise going into $40k+ debt for this career. Why can't you get a job as a mechanic and do it slowly and pay as you go? I think that is the biggest mistake that pilots do is getting a huge loan for a career where the entry level jobs are not paying enough to keep you above water. Find a local FBO and get your private pilot license. You already have your bachelors degree,...

No idea, what does their app website say?
They may be accepting them, but they will not be reviewing them until they need to hire, which they have not announced yet. Always good to keep em updated.

I know as much that they have couple of guys in Cit X initial in a couple of weeks at SimuFlite, so I guess they are still hiring. Not bad in this economy..
I'll be in that class myself through the right seat program at SimuFlite. I might find out some more at that time.

Aw, its sounds like you work for pan am. I've got some friends there and
they say the same things as you do. If you want to get out you have to look
harder. I would suggest taking resumes personally to fbos, hangers, get
charter magazines and call the operations and see if u can send them a
resume. Times are tough and you might just have to instruct for a couple
more years until the recession ...
