We were talking about you, not me. And smearing? You've stated in the past you don't fight with it. I reiterated that and you're offended? Please. Merry Chrismas Mike

That is interesting Chris, The extending of the back arm ( you called it the cross? ) during the movements is the way I was taught Aikido movements in the early 80's. My sensei then, had trained with Tohei Sensei before his split from the Aikikai. David

Greetings All,
I have been off the forums since early December 2008, when I went on a temporary assignment to the US Treasury in the area of foreclosure prevention and relief. Later that month, my son Vincent was born. Between the job, the dojo, and the family, I have been pretty busy for the past 12...

We never play music during practice. Yet, I doubt they would be against it. O' sensei likened Aikido to music himself. Probably because he was a Shin Tao priest. They have a belief that the universe was started with a noise...god old "and God spoke" concept I guess.

I like the chimp analogy and have used it many times as an illustration.
Chimps have shorter legs, so they basically just have to lean forward to roll, we have to bend the knees more so we can't
copy it 100%.
I have also noticed this roll in Kung Fu a lot,
it has an advantage in taking off speed, an the body seems to do it naturally when the rolls get fast and enegetic,
BUT you will ...

Hello Jun,
Thank you for making an opportunity for VOE members to respond to important questions regarding Aiki and Aikido related topics.
Perhaps there is a way to preserve the integrity of the VOE process, and still split off a thread to be continued in the general section? It would be cool to be able to do so. I recall one instance where a "response to loyalty" was successful. That ...

Heh, funny you should ask.
You say techniques vary from dojo to dojo... try the same dojo where your instructor says one thing and the leading kyu says another!
This has thrown more than one person off to be certain, and confused me at the beginning as well.
[one reason it would be nice to have the instructor consistently come and teach...]
I try to avoid the confusion that comes ...

There isn't anything wimpy about acknowledging your own pain and letting your partner know. You need to draw the line between exaggerating your pain and speaking up when it is too intense for the situation. I used to periodically speak with an elderly woman, in her eighties at the time, in various community meetings. She was the sweetest person and would hold your hand for minutes on end when ...

I usually train 3 days a week in class. Typical class is 1.5 hours but on the weekend we sometimes go for 3 hours. Don't tell my boss but I think I spend half my day at work thinking about Aikido. I also try to get to Brazilian jiujitsu classes a couple times a month.
And yes, giraffe tongues are blue.

I forgot to mention.....With the whole walking with a limp issue, I think
my balance is probably below average....is this a deal breaker, or will
balance come with proper training?
