This won’t do. You have no evidence to take such a position. The only way you would justified in saying this is if you knew all of the universe and reality exhaustively. Sorry but that is just trying to move the burden of proof. He made the claim that no god exist. He bears the burden of proof to show this to be the case. YOU claim that there is a god, specifically the God of the Bible, it is up to YOU to demonstratee that such a being...

"Oh well, go on and keep bribing militants, supporting tyrants and encouraging theocracy, since no value system is superior than any other." Our alliance with India has to be measured in terms of Pakistani reaction. That means, sad to say, you guys don't matter at the moment, but don't take it personally. The problem is that absent (even formal, superficial) Pak support, the war on terrorism is lost. It's lost anyway...

The real context of those quotations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nnVQ2fROOg Yes, this is what I suspected might be at play here. Climate-change deniers are just like creationists in this respect. Sounds like it. Half baked accusations they make about the global warming data replace the wealth of contrary data they can't seem to produce themselves. The amount of criticism attacking an unwanted reality is inversely proportional to...

Thats the whole point of the New Testament. Because I am a sinner but I believe in the Lord Christ, my sins have all been forgiven, so on judgement day, God says what sins are you guilty of commiting, Jesus steps forward and says None, I have paid the price for his sin, he is clean..... Indeed. So please tell us, is Adolph Hitler forgiven and in Heaven?

Jesus: Myth or Historical?

I should have re-read that - I meant mute insofar as leaving a written record of himself. Years ago I read Carsten Pieter Thiede's book where he claimed that the Gospels were being written as early as the 30s. That has been pretty firmly knocked on the head I think. One point he did make however, was that Jesus was multi-lingual. Greek among the languages he spoke. It looks as if the scroll he is reported to have read aloud...

Thanks for the support, guys. I made major progress. I got a pic uploaded to photobucket, I created the link, and it inserted .... a box with a placeholder. I have display pix turned on in the browser, and I have everything enabled in about.com. I'm not sure yet what I have to do to get the pic to replace the placeholder onscreen, but I WILL find out. x

There seems to be a controversy drifting around about scientists barring global warming deniers (actual scientists that deny GW, not just corporate mouths posing as scientists) from participating in peer reviews. My sister's husband mentioned it and I heard them mention it on CNN, although it was a "coming up after the break announcement" (which usually means somewhere down the road), and I...

I am resigned to not getting a real public option, and at this point I would rather not get one at all instead of getting a pseudo public option and have it tainted by failure. What I now support is two ideas being considered. The first is extending Medicare down to the age of fifty (people below age 65 would pay a premium), and the second is extending Medicaid up to 150% of the poverty level. ...

Whatever floats your boat, my friend. I have an alternative idea for you. What about living the way Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount and the parables? Wouldn't that be a greater tribute than believing in Jesus? I think his moral teachings should be the focus, not who he was but rather what he said. What possessed you to leave your first post in an Atheism/Agnosticism forum rather ...

India is strong and is getting stronger. With US help it'll become even more strong. May be, with decades, so strong, that it will threaten US domination over the world. Obviously, strong India is against US long-term interests as the single superpower of the world. Therefore, US have no choice but to support opponents of India in the region, even if it'll be against their own interests in the ...

Bishop Tobin is not interfering with Representative Kennedy Pris. He is trying to interfere. I doubt he will succeed. After all the RCC never succeeded in changing the father's politics on abortion; I think it is unlikely he will change the son's politics either. It seems to me that in saying the RCC is opposed to the biggest social justice issue of our time Rep. Kennedy enraged the Bishop...

I think you have to separate the person and the legends because there might indeed have been a historical figure, a wandering teacher/healer, who might have been pretty charismatic (think 'placebo effect' writ large) who had a group of followers. Many of them did. When he died, legends grew and grew and grew until the actual person was no longer recognized as a human being at all. As Rank ...

Type up any text you want to, then go to the bottom of the reply composition box and hit the HTML button. That'll take you in to HTML editing mode. If you have already typed in text, go to the end of all the junk you see in the reply box and add the following line of code (maybe save this in a notepad file so you can cut-and-paste it whenever you want): <img src=" "> The number ...

That's a good place to start. Before I read that final sentence, it was the first thing in my mind. But my problem solving with things like this usually follows hunches, rather than my limited knowledge of electronics. I've actually been surprisingly successful using that method.

Whenever I hear of Comfort (or his very close friend, Cameron), I'm reminded of their organisation "The Way of the Master". I then smile because I expect a blue 60s police phone box to appear and a certain doctor to rush out and do battle with said Master!
